When you're a kid, you want to hear scary stories and watch spooky TV shows and movies, but at the same time, it feels like monsters really are hiding under your bed and many things are going bump in the night. As adults, we look back fondly on our childhood pop culture favorites, including Are You Afraid Of The Dark? The popular children's anthology series featured friends sharing terrifying horror stories.

With the reboot premiering this month, it's a great time to look back at the best and worst of the original show. Here are the five episodes we really want to see remade when the show comes back, along with five that we don't.

Want To See: The Tale Of The Prom Queen (Season 1)

The season one episode "The Tale of the Prom Queen" is a classic one, and it's an episode that would be really fun to see remade in the reboot. Even though decades have passed since the original episode aired in 1992, it's true that prom night is still a huge part of high school, and it's still a rite of passage that is easy to relate to.

The story follows an adolescent girl named Judy who was killed by a car while hanging out in a cemetery on prom night. Instead of having a happy, romantic night with her boyfriend Ricky, a car literally ran into her and ended her life. Jam and Greg discover what happened, including the fact that Judy's spirit lives on. It's a scary and compelling story, and it would be cool to see it in 2019.

Don't: The Tale of the Hungry Hounds (Season 1)

Even just the title of this first season episode sounds bad, and the content of the episode isn't much better.

The story follows two young girls, Pam and Amy. Pam is haunted by her aunt after wearing her riding jacket. Where do the "hungry hounds" come into play? Well, as it turns out, she has to make sure that they have enough to eat or it will affect her aunt's afterlife. This episode is pretty dull and it's not scary at all. It should be left in the past for sure.

Want To See: The Tale of the Unfinished Painting (Season 4)

The Tale of The Unfinished Painting episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark

This Are You Afraid Of The Dark? episode is definitely well-done, and it would be awesome to see it remade in the 2019 reboot. Chances are, many of us remember it fondly and clearly, even though we saw it during our childhood.

When Cody, who loves to paint, meets a gallery owner, Mrs. Briar, it turns out that Cody can literally go into the universe of the paintings there, thanks to the brushes which have some dark magic in them. Cody discovers that people's souls have been locked in the paintings. The story has a happy ending as Cody becomes a wonderful artist and also lets everyone stuck in the paintings go. It would be great to see a new version of this episode. Perhaps the character could be a graphic designer and people's souls could get stuck in a computer?

Don't: The Tale of the Gruesome Gourmets (Season 6)

On the other hand, we don't really need a remake of the season six episode "The Tale of the Gruesome Gourmets." It's about a couple who live in the neighborhood of the two boys who are the main characters. They're really into food and cooking... but are actually eating people.

We probably don't have fond memories of this particular episode. It's a gross idea and remaking it for the reboot doesn't seem necessary.

Want To See: The Tale of the Phone Police (Season 3)

Characters talking on the Are You Afraid Of The Dark?

In this classic episode, friends try to prank call and it goes terribly wrong. Their babysitter tells them to be careful or the Phone Police will come after them. They shrug it off but they do exist.

The Phone Police are so scary because they kidnap kids and no one seems them ever again. While the message of this episode might be a bit corny (don't make prank calls or you'll get in trouble), it would be interesting to see a 2019 version of it.

The season six episode "The Tale of the Misfortune Cookie" doesn't need to be remade. The general storyline is that the main character, David, wants to be happier and have more luck. A magical cookie makes all his dreams come true... but, of course, nothing works out the way that he wanted and everything starts going wrong.

This storyline is similar to the Goosebumps episode "Be Careful What You Wish For" and at this point, it's pretty played out. With movies like The Butterfly Effect, we have seen way too many examples of a character making wishes or deals and then messing up the timeline and events of their life. A remake of this episode isn't necessary, either.

Want To See: The Tale of the Ghastly Grinner (Season 4)

Are You Afraid Of The Dark The Tale of the Ghastly Grinner

Clowns are always creepy, and the crown in the Are You Afraid Of The Dark? episode "The Tale of the Ghastly Grinner" doesn't disappoint.

The clown is a comic book villain and looks terrifying. After the book gets wet, the main character puts it in the microwave to dry it but it brings the clown into the real world. He makes people smile but the grins are so scary that it's pretty haunting. How awesome would a remake of this episode be?

Don't: The Tale of the Mystical Mirror (Season 5)

The owner of the Elysian Beauty Store gives customers makeovers, and in the process, steals their youthful glow. They also become dogs, which, well, is pretty weird. And doesn't make any sense.

This isn't that scary, and the moral of the story (live in the moment, be confident, don't try to look like someone else or hide your true beauty) falls a little flat. It would be tough to put a new spin on this episode if it was remade for the 2019 reboot, as it wasn't even one of the best episodes of the original TV show.

Want To See: The Tale of the Forever Game (Season 6)

Chances are, if we watched Are You Afraid Of The Dark? as kids, we never forget about the episode "The Tale of the Forever Game." A group of friends literally are stuck in a board game.

The idea of a board game coming to life is terrifying whether you're a kid or a grown-up. With all the advancements in special effects, the 2019 reboot could definitely do an awesome job with this episode.

Don't: The Tale of the Walking Shadow (Season 6)

This season six episode is about Macbeth and how kids working on the play see spirits. It's pretty tired at this point to talk about this play being scary or haunting its actors, so it doesn't seem like a good idea to make this episode part of the reboot.

While we do have strong opinions on the best and worst episodes to put in the Are You Afraid Of The Dark? reboot, we can't wait to watch it no matter what is included.
