In an ambitious crossover event that rivals Avengers: Infinity War itself, here's what happens in the Archie Vs Sharknado comic. Archie first appeared in Pep Comics in 1941 and is a teenager from the town of Riverdale. A lot of the comic's drama comes from the love triangle between him, Betty Cooper, and Veronica Lodge, and they all perform together in band The Archies, alongside Archie's friend Jughead. The comics have been consistently popular for decades and has spawned a number of spinoffs, including the 1960s animated series The Archie Show - where virtual band The Archies scored a hit with the classic single "Sugar, Sugar" - and Archie's Weird Mysteries.

The character has received a couple of live-action adaptations too, including TV movie Archie: To Riverdale And Back Again and most recently The CW's Riverdale. The latter show is a darker take on the source material and feels more than a little inspired by Twin Peaks. The show's quirkiness soon attracted a fanbase - not unlike SyFy's Sharknado franchise. The original film became a cult sensation based on its ludicrous premise and tongue in cheek tone, and five increasingly ridiculous sequels followed. The franchise even got its own spinoff with Lavalantula, which featured several members of the Police Academy cast, including Steve Guttenberg. Sharknado leading man Ian Ziering also made a cameo, tying the two franchises together.

Archie has had some downright odd comic crossovers in his time, including meeting with the Punisher, Sonic The Hedgehog and the Predator. Naturally, these team-ups are meant to be silly fun, which also goes for the Archie Vs Sharknado comic from 2015. This one-shot was produced as a tie-in for Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! and was written by the film's director Anthony C. Ferrante. Like the title implies, the plot involves a sharknado hitting Riverdale and it's up to Archie and his friends to save the town.

Archie vs. Sharknado

Archie Vs Sharknado opens with Betty and Veronica in Washington, which is suddenly swarmed by a sharknado. The girls survive and take a helicopter back to Riverdale, where they use the blades to hack up sharks along the way. Meanwhile, Archie and his friends are partying on a boat when the sharks arrive; Sabrina the Teenage Witch tries to use magic on the sharknado but her arms are swiftly bitten off. Archie and the other survivors head to the high school dance - where Josie and the Pussycats are performing - where they fend off more attacks. Betty and Veronica eventually arrive and the gang defeats the sharknado by blowing it up from the inside.

Archie Vs Sharknado was always going to be extremely over the top and goofy, and from that perspective, the comic doesn't disappoint. There's also something delightful about contrasting Archie's colorful style with the intense gore of Sharknado.
