After a season-long storyline about leaving the spy life behind to be criminals, the Archer team is returning to their status quo in season 6 (mostly, anyway - the name "ISIS" will no longer be used now that those initials stand for a very real, very violent group in the Middle East). Some fans enjoyed the show's new crime-infused hijinks, some yearned for the days of of old-fashioned spy movie humor, but most would are looking forward to returning to the original premise that made Archer so successful in the first place.
Archer season 6 won't premiere until January, but today we got our first look at the new season in the form of a teaser trailer. Check it out above. The trailer works like most promos do by showing us a series of images over music (in this case, "Black Betty" by Ram Jam) and not a whole lot in the way of new plot details. Though it does show us how all the members of the Archer gang - Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin), Malory Archer (Jessica Walter), Lana Kane (Aisha Tyler), Cheryl Tunt (Judy Greer), Cyril Figgis (Chris Parnell), Pam Poovey (Amber Nash), Ray Gillette (Adam Reed), Dr. Krieger (Lucky Yates) - have transitioned from where they were at the end of season 5 and where they'll be at the beginning of season 6.
Archer leaves behind his Miami Vice-esque lifestyle to return to his life as a spy; Lana is learning to juggle her new life as a mother and her very dangerous professional life; Cheryl discards her country music persona, Cherline, by burning her guitar and all her records; Pam has gained back all the weight that she lost after getting addicted to cocaine; and Cyril leaves his job as President of San Marcos. (The rest? Well, they seem pretty much the same.)
Though there were those who didn't love last season's Vice storyline, the finale - which saw Lana reveal to Archer that he was the father of her baby - was widely considered to be good, not to mention quite touching. It'll be interesting to see how Archer, an absolutely insane person, handles fatherhood, though if the season 5 finale is anything to go by, he'll probably surprise a lot of people.

Archer season 6 premieres in January 19th, 2015 on FXX.
