Warning: Contains spoilers for Arcane season 1.

Here's everything we know about Netflix's Arcane season 2. Although many video game adaptations have suffered the wrath of poor critic reviews, Riot Games Arcane is breaking that curse thanks to its beautiful animation from French studio Fortiche and a variety of complex and compelling characters. The show rose to Netflix's top 10 charts in over 50 countries, making a continuation of the series a no-brainer.

Based on the popular League of Legends video game, Arcane follows two sisters, Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Powder (Ella Purnell), who find themselves on opposite sides of a conflict between the rich city of Piltover and its poor undercity Zaun. Separated as children, Powder grows up into Silco's (Jason Spisak) protegee Jinx, while Vi is presumed dead for years until an enforcer named Caitlyn (Katie Leung) frees her from prison in exchange for her help. At the same time, tensions continue to rise between Piltover's council members as they debate the best course of action to control the production and use of Hextech.

After the cliffhanger that ended season 1 of Netflix's Arcane, viewers eagerly began speculating about the future of the series. Although the pandemic had greatly delayed the show's premiere date, fans will hopefully not have to wait nearly as long for any future installments. Here's everything known so far about Arcane season 2.

Arcane Season 2 Is Happening At Netflix

arcane season 2 renewed

After an explosive finale for a show that has been praised by both critics and fans, Netflix was quick to announce a second season, confirming that Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and Katie Leung—the voices of Vi, Jinx and Caitlyn—are returning. The official Twitter announcement reads, "Where's a Hexgate when you need one?", along with a short teaser video that includes a few lines from Arcane season 2. Caitlyn's voice opens by saying, "Every way I slice it, if I go after your sister alone, one of us comes back in a box."

Arcane Season 2's Story: What Season 1's Ending Sets Up

Jinx in Arcane League of Legends game

The end of Arcane season 1 featured a final confrontation between Jinx, Vi, Caitlyn, and Silco, while Piltover's council met to decide if peace could still be achieved between Piltover and Zaun. In the ensuing chaos, resulting in Silco's death, a grief-stricken Jinx weaponized the Hextech crystal to fire at the council building just as they voted for Zaun's independence. Season 1 ended right before the missile landed, setting the stage for an inevitable war that will likely be the focus of Arcane season 2.

The confirmation of several returning voice actors guarantees that Arcane will remain centered on Vi, Caitlyn, and Jinx, but this does not mean that new characters cannot be introduced. The short teaser for Arcane season 2 included a brief ticking noise that some believe is Warwick's metallic heartbeat. In the games, Warwick is a werewolf-like man that resulted from an experiment. It's possible that, in Arcane, Warwick will appear as the revived Vander (JB Blanc) to remind Jinx and Vi of their shared past.

Arcane season 2 will also likely expand on the world-building from its first season. The final few episodes introduced the mother of council member Mel Medara (Toks Olagundoye) and her origin on Noxus. Mel struggled between loyalty to her family and to Jayce (Kevin Alejandro) and Piltover, ultimately choosing the latter when she voted to avoid bloodshed. With war now seemingly inevitable, however, those loyalties might be tested once more. Season 2 of Netflix's Arcane show could explore the world outside Piltover, especially if any surviving council members plead with foreign rulers for aid. At the very least, Mel's mother (Ellen Thomas) will definitely try to encourage the production of Hextech weaponry to use in her own battles on Noxus.

Arcane Season 2 Release Date & Episode Count Prediction

No official information has been shared yet about a release date for Arcane season 2, but Netflix's announcement had stated the show was already "in production," meaning it's highly probable that season 2 could release in late 2022 or early 2023, assuming they don't experience the delays that season 1 faced. Arcane will likely follow its pattern of releasing 9 total episodes in 3 episode "acts" on Netflix. If season 2 can continue what made its first one so great, then Arcane is guaranteed to tell a truly fantastic story.
