Nicole Kidman has opened up about how excited she is to be playing Arthur Curry's mother in Aquaman. And for those who have been paying attention as of late, the highly-anticipated DC title promises to only continue Kidman's recent resurgence. Following her critically-acclaimed performance in HBO's Big Little Lies, Kidman was involved in more projects that screened at this year's Cannes International Film Festival than any other performer this year. With a number of the titles receiving positive responses and early awards buzz, it looks like Kidman's time back on top of the entertainment industry is only going to continue over the next few years.

Notably, the actress will be appearing in her first superhero movie ever with next year's Aquaman, which is currently in the midst of principal photography in Australia, the home country of both Kidman and the film's director, James Wan. And apparently, it was Wan's involvement in the title that got Kidman's attention in the first place, before the promise of the role itself eventually led to her signing on to the project.

While recently speaking with DeadlineKidman opened up about her excitement to be playing Lady Atlanna in the film, the mother of Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry, and who the actress describes as being a "female warrior of the sea":

“Well, James Wan is Australian, and he’s a friend of mine. I think he’s going to make an amazing movie. We’ve always circled each other, so when he came to me, I was like, ‘James, I’ll do anything for you.’ When he said ‘female warrior from the sea’ who wears mother of pearl, I went, ‘Yes. Female warrior from the sea. Me like.’”

Interestingly enough, while Aquaman is the first superhero movie that Kidman is officially set to star in, it's actually the second DCEU movie that she's been linked to. Originally back in 2015, Kidman was reported as being up for one of the high-ranking Amazonian roles in Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman, before talks between the actress and studio eventually faded away.

Fortunately, the dissolution of those talks made it possible for Kidman to play Atlanna in Aquaman, a film that will feature a number of exciting, strong female characters for fans to meet and fall in love with. Based solely on the powers she's showcased and the role that Queen Atlanna has played in the comics over the years, it looks like Aquaman will be able to offer Kidman a role worthy of her talents and experience. With a veteran filmmaker like Wan at the helm, Aquaman is shaping up to be one of the more promising superhero films set to hit theaters over the next few years, which only seems fitting considering the current trajectory that Kidman is on herself.
