Aquaman director James Wan has taken to Twitter to tease the reveal of the villainous Black Manta's iconic helmet. Starring Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, the King of Atlantis' upcoming solo movie is set to release in December, making it the next DCEU movie to hit theaters.

Outside of a pair of recently released images of Momoa in the title role, very little is known about Aquaman at this point. A rumored synopsis for the film that leaked nearly a year ago teased a brewing war between Atlantis and the surface world, a conflict that will almost certainly be instigated by the movie's two villains, Ocean Master and Black Manta (played by Patrick Wilson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, respectively).

Fans are undoubtedly excited to see what Wilson will look like fully-suited up as Aquaman's villainous half-brother, who will serve as the film's main antagonist. The reveal of Abdul-Mateen II's Black Manta, however, seems to have a great deal more riding on it. Whether that has to do with the perception that Black Manta has a more important role to play in the DCEU, or if it's more of a matter of the villain's classic football-shaped helmet being unsettlingly easy to screw up in live-action, there's quite a bit of hype surrounding his reveal. Aquaman director James Wan seems to be aware of this, as his latest post on Twitter teases the effects that helmet will have on Abdul-Mateen II's voice in the film. Check it out for yourself below.

Though the picture reveals little about the look or shape of the helmet itself, it does confirm its size, which shouldn't be discounted. It wouldn't exactly have been a shocker if Wan and co. opted for a Black Manta helmet that was a bit more practical in both size and shape. His helmet is a major part of what sets the character apart, however, so it would definitely be for the best if they aim for a more faithful adaptation. Fans will just have to accept that they're either going to absolutely love the final design or despise it with every fiber of their being.

Abdul-Mateen II actually trolled fans with a fakeout reveal of his Black Manta costume back in July, but we should get a look at the character sometime in the next few months. Here's hoping they nail it, and that Abdul-Mateen II didn't stick his head into a trash can for nothing.
