James Wan's Aquaman is due to arrive in December, so when will Warner Bros. and DC Films release the first trailer for the upcoming movie? The DC Films universe has had mixed success since it was launched with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. Though Wonder Woman was an unequivocal success, Justice League was a miss both in terms of box office and reviews. Still, many DC movie fans are excited for the release of Aquaman later this year. The Wan-directed film will hit theaters in December as the only DC Films release of 2018.

Fans are eager to get their first look at Aquaman. At San Diego Comic-Con last year, Aquaman footage was screened, but never released to the public. A rumor earlier this year teased the first Aquaman trailer, but Wan quickly debunked it. A second rumor posited the Aquaman trailer would arrive at WonderCon - but that didn't happen either. Wan took to Twitter to explain why an Aquaman trailer has been released yet. However, that still leaves fans with the question of when exactly the first Aquaman trailer will arrive. Now, we break down when we'll likely get our first look at the upcoming DC Films universe entry.

WonderCon in March was too early for the Aquaman trailer to arrive, especially considering Wan's explanation that the visual effects aren't ready yet. After it didn't turn up with Avengers: Infinity War in April, the hype has only intensified.

UPDATE: The Aquaman trailer has now screened at CineEurope and is expected to arrive online "soon". This could be in time for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, or possibly Ant-Man & the Wasp in early July. At the latest, we expect the trailer before SDCC in mid-July.

UPDATE 2: Wan has confirmed the Aquaman trailer will debut at SDCC 2018. It will likely be screened at the Warner Bros. Hall H panel and be released online sometime thereafter. The time of Warner Bros' panel has not yet been revealed.

In terms of what to expect, this first look at Aquaman will likely be a teaser trailer, rather than a full trailer. So it could clock in at about a minute to a minute and a half in length. As a result, fans should temper their expectations. Teaser trailers typically don't reveal too much about the story, but work to simply tease fans and casual moviegoers to get them buzzing about the upcoming film. We'll likely get a good look at Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry and Amber Heard as Mera since they were in Justice League last year. However, we might not get too much of the other characters, like Patrick Wilson's Orm, Willem Dafoe's Vulko, or Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Black Manta.

Still, considering the pressure on Aquaman to be a success in light of Justice League being the lowest grossing film of the franchise so far, many are eager to see what Wan's superhero film has in store for moregoers. As Wan indicated, though, the Aquaman trailer won't debut until it's ready. Hopefully that still means we'll get it in the next month or so.
