It's finally happening. The wedding bells are somehow ringing beneath the ocean waves, as Aquaman and Mera will be tying the knot and getting married after all this time in Aquaman #65. Much of what writer Kelly Sue DeConnick has been building up towards is coming together in this culminating finale, and it's only going to get bigger in the series' last issue coming this November. Read on to learn more.

This latest Aquaman series has had it all: death, resurrection, sea gods, birth and new life, love, political intrigue, kidnapping, fake engagements, Jason Momoa-esque tatoos, and a giant Black Manta robot to boot. What more could an Aquaman fan want? Due to Aquaman's death, his love Mera has been ruling Atlantis as queen. Even when Aquaman returns from the grave, Mera continues to rule, as the people of Atlantis have lost faith and trust in their former king. Therefore, Arthur spends most of his time on Amnesty Bay.

Later, Mera gives birth to their child, a daughter they name Andy. Meanwhile, Orm the Ocean Master has been sowing distrust and riling up dissent in response to a sickness spreading throughout the seven kingdoms, building an army in a bid to take the throne. However, the existence of Arthur and Mera's child is a huge problem, as she would delegitimize any claim Orm believes he still has to the throne, however loose, prompting him to kidnap the child, sowing even more conflict. Not only that, but Mera's royal court had been pressuring her to marry, so she creates a fake engagement to Vulko in order to retain power, especially when she goes into a coma after giving birth to Andy. When she does rise from her coma, it's revealed that her engagement and wedding to Vulko was indeed a ruse meant to gather the rulers of the Seven Kingdoms so she could propose and end to all monarchies for the good of all, which is met with calls for all-out war led by Ocean Master, which prompts Aquaman's return to Atlantis. Here's the cover art for Aquaman #65 and the synopsis from DC Comics, showing the epic conclusion of this new underwater clash:

  • AQUAMAN #65
  • Release Date: November 17th, 2020
  • Written by: Kelly Sue DeConnick
  • Art by: Miguel Mendonça
  • Cover by: Robson Rocha, Daniel Henriques
  • Villains, heroes, machinations, and long-held grudges from Kelly Sue DeConnick’s definitive Aquaman run all converge in this issue! Arthur is defeated, Mera’s held captive, and Orm’s grand plan is near completion! Together, Mera and Arthur are one of DC’s most powerful couples, and when they send out the call, you better believe that everyone answers. Guest-starring the Justice League in a finale that will amaze you!

It looks as though Ocean Master's calls for war will be successful, and he'll be instigating an entire coup against Mera and the throne, with Aquaman losing the initial fight and Mera taken prisoner. Thankfully, Aquaman and his allies were able to rescue Andy in prior issues and she's safe out of Ocean Master's reach. Furthermore, it looks as though the Justice League will be coming to provide support for a second offensive, which works out great for after the win when and Arthur and Mera will most likely decide to get married. All of their friends and allies will already be present, so there's no need to send out invites. Fans will get to see the wedding of Aquman and Mera when Aquaman #65 releases this November.
