While DC's Justice League franchise is a massive pop culture icon, only one member of the team has a clear future in the greatly troubled DCEU. Since its inception, the DCEU has had an identity crisis, one that has persisted and put the DCEU on very shaky ground. This problem, along with several other issues, has severely harmed the reputation of the DCEU's core Justice League, messing up the future of every member - except one.

First coming together in 2017's Justice League, the DCEU's powerful team consists of Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and the Flash. All of these heroes are immensely popular on their own, so a team-up film similar to The Avengers seemed like a surefire success. However, the film critically failed, and Justice League was later met with abuse claims, a fan campaign for a director's cut, and an entire change in direction for the DCEU. Sadly, this film was not the end of the DCEU's troubled development, as misstep after misstep has killed the future of almost every member of the Justice League.

With the exception of one member, the future of every hero in the original Justice League lineup is uncertain. While Ben Affleck is confirmed to return as Batman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, this is the character's only confirmed future appearance. With Ben Affleck only being one of three big-screen Batmans right now (with Robert Pattinson and Michael Keaton both playing the character in future films), he could easily be cut in favor of a more successful iteration. While The Flash is still set to release next year, Barry Allen actor Ezra Miller has been causing major problems, and their behavior could lead to their departure from the DCEU. Cyborg actor Ray Fisher is the one that helmed many of the aforementioned Justice League allegations, causing bad blood and making his DCEU return unlikely. Wonder Woman 3 is still coming, but production is slow, giving time for Warner Bros to still make changes. Finally, nobody knows what's happening with Henry Cavill's Superman, or if he will ever return. So, although he has long been the butt of jokes, only one Justice League member has a certain future: Jason Momoa's Aquaman.

Why Aquaman Is The Only Justice League Member With A Clear DCEU Future

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is one of the most imminent upcoming DCEU movies, and its release seems almost certain. Unlike The Flash's lead actor, Jason Momoa isn't causing the studio any trouble and seems to be eager to reprise the role. 2018's Aquaman is actually the DCEU's highest-grossing film, giving Warner Bros. an incentive to keep producing these aquatic adventures. While many laughed at the idea of turning one of DC's silliest characters into a cool and edgy hero, Aquaman is surprisingly the one Justice League member with the most certain DCEU future.

While the futures of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and the Flash are all up in the air, Jason Momoa's Aquaman is the only character who isn't in hot water. Since its inception, the DCEU's Justice League lineup has been troubled, something they've never managed to completely fix. Therefore, surprising as it may seem, Aquaman is the only Justice League member with a clear DCEU future.
