Warning! Spoilers ahead for Justice League #59

In the latest issue of Justice League, a new era has come for DC's greatest heroes, though Aquaman still uses a classic attack that never gets old: a wall of sharks. While fighting an alien invader of unknown origin named Brutus, the League sprang to action to take down this foe seeking to claim the world as his own. During the conflict, Arthur Curry naturally got his time to shine as soon as the new villain found himself above the ocean waves.

In Justice League #59 from writer Brian Michael Bendis with art by David Marquez, Black Adam was suddenly attacked in his own nation of Kahndaq by Brutus, who appeared out of nowhere from a portal. While the two were initially locked in a one-on-one duel, the arrival of the Justice League quickly tipped the odds out of Brutus' favor once they determined that Black Adam was not the threat in this particular scenario. While Brutus did try to engage the League all at once, he was quickly met with a massive uppercut from Superman himself, and it all went downhill for the villain from there.

The punch from the Man of Steel is what puts Brutus over the ocean, allowing Aquaman to do what he does best: summoning ocean life. However, Arthur Curry elects to go old school in this issue, bringing back a tried and true attack that never fails in the wow department, first popularized back in 2011's Justice League #4 during the team's New 52 origin story. This time around, he also reveals the simple but perfect name he's given the epic move: "The Wall of Shark".

Just like in Aquaman's first meeting with the other heroes who would make up the League, Aquaman summons a literal horde of sharks to form a wall of fins and teeth to attack and submerge his foe. Not only that, but when Brutus tries to return to the surface he's immediately smacked back down into the depths by Hawkgirl so Arthur can hit him again. However, Brutus would eventually retreat through a new portal (though promising to return), despite the Justice League's impressive assault.

While it's pretty cool to see another epic use of Aquaman's "Wall of Shark", the timing of it is a fun dynamic as well. Both times Arthur unleashed this attack against an alien invader were also at times when the Justice League was entering a new era of its team: the first being it's inception and the second being the current expansion of its roster with new heroes. In any case, seeing Aquaman achieve peak levels of awesome with his ability to communicate with ocean life is always great to see, and bringing back one of his best attacks is an added bonus for the issue from DC Comics.
