James Wan shares a new photo from the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom revealing Patrick Wilson's Ocean Master looking like Tom Hanks in Cast Away. After making a vocal cameo as the President of the United States in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wilson made his proper DC Extended Universe debut in the first Aquaman film. Wilson starred as Orm Marius, Arthur Curry's Atlantean half-brother and king of Atlantas who sought to unite the seven underwater kingdoms to declare war on the surface world for humanity's desecration of the seas until he was ultimately defeated and dethroned by the titular hero.
Wilson returns for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom alongside Jason Momoa in the lead role, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Kane, also known as Black Manta, and Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry. Wan also returns to the director's chair with screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick returning to script on a story he co-authored and developed with Momoa. Following numerous delays from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, production got underway on the highly-anticipated sequel in London in late June and Wan is keeping fans up to date with exciting developments for the film.
Just a couple of days after revealing the new suits for its titular hero, Wan has taken to Instagram to share a new set photo for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The new photo reveals Wilson's return as Orm/Ocean Master with a shaggy hairstyle and beard akin to Hanks' Chuck in Cast Away. Check out the new photo below:

The first look at Wilson's return for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is sure to draw the humorous comparisons to Hanks' iconic 2000 survival drama, including from Wan himself, but it also offers a few points of intrigue regarding Orm's return. The first Aquaman concluded with Arthur sparing Orm's life and the latter accepting his imprisonment after learning his brother saved their mother's life from The Trench, which left the door open for his villainous return but also for a more humbled development in the future. The beach setting of Wilson's photo and his hair and clothing raises the interesting question of whether Orm has been sentenced to a land-based imprisonment or if he has escaped with the help of a certain fellow villain.
The cast roster for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has proven to be an interesting one thus far as it features the returns of both Orm and Black Manta, both villains of the original film, though as plot details have been kept close to the chest it's currently unknown who will be the bigger focus heading into the sequel. While Wilson hasn't offered many details on the film, Abdul-Mateen II has teased David Kane/Black Manta will be more mature heading into the follow-up and allotted more time to breathe, seemingly pointing towards his taking a bigger antagonistic role in comparison to the first film. Only time will tell what the sequel holds for both characters when the film arrives in theaters on December 16, 2022.
