Jason Momoa had to calm down fears about his recently departed beard this week, but he also confirmed that Aquaman 2's story is set and ready to go. Although he previously shaved his beard off to raise awareness about the dangers of single-use plastic water bottles, the change won't last too long since he'll soon have to return to playing Arthur Curry thanks to the success of last year's Aquaman.

Aquaman's $1 billion success ensured WB would be interested in expanding the big screen adventures of Atlantis. Not long ago, Trench horror spinoff entered development, and the studio is also working on a proper sequel to the original film. Fans still have a long way to wait before the previously announced 2022 release date, but Momoa is doing his part to keep the momentum going by teasing what's in store.

"I was really, really, really passionate to do the second one because it's the first time where it's all on Earth," Momoa teased while on Ellen. "It's combining land and sea, kind of like what I'm doing with this [environmental cause]. There's no outside aliens destroying Earth, it's us." While the first film included some implications that humanity - Atlantean or Earthling - was its own worst enemy, it would certainly be interesting to see the sequel expand on that topic.

Momoa was eager to let everyone know that the ball was rolling on DC's upcoming project, so he added, "I was excited to get back in there, and so I've been working with our previous writer, and getting in there, and we've got a locked story, and we're getting into it." Given his level of enthusiasm for the next film, it's safe to say that some of the ideas he pitched back in October of 2018 made it into the script.

While he was very sparse about the story details even in his most recent appearance, the fact that David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is back on board to write the script for the sequel is a very good sign. Hopefully it means James Wan won't be far behind in confirming his position as director, seeing as he is working with Johnson-McGoldrick on The Conjuring 3 in at least a producer capacity.

And just in case anyone was still concerned that Arthur would be sans facial hair when Aquaman 2 comes around, the actor assured the audience that would not be the case. "I think it's going to be like in two years or whatever. The beard will be back by then."
