The Apple Watch Series 7 might only be a few months away, if Apple’s smartwatch release history is anything to go by. The company tends to release multiple new and updated products each year, and the Apple Watch is one of them. Therefore, it is less of a question of whether a new Apple smartwatch will launch in 2021 and more of a case of when it will launch this year.

For buyers in the market for a new smartwatch, the Apple Watch has continually proved to be a popular option. This is more the case for iPhone users considering the watchOS-powered wearable is not as useful when paired with an Android device. In spite of being mainly limited to iOS devices, the Apple Watch has continued to eclipse all others when it comes to sales and that’s unlikely to change soon.

If Apple sticks to its traditional release schedule then the Watch Series 7 is likely to be announced in September of 2021. Apple announced the Watch Series 6 in 2020 on September 15, the Series 5 in 2019 on September 10, and the Series 4 in 2018 on September 12. In all previous cases, the latest Apple Watch has either gone on sale on the same day or within a few days of being announced. Providing there are no major delays, it seems likely Apple will stick to a similar September announcement (and release) as it has in the past. While it remains to be seen what features the next new Apple Watch will offer, there have been suggestions that the Watch Series 7 might add to the smartwatch line's health benefits through the addition of blood glucose monitoring.

Watch Series 7's Expected Price

Again, using past recent releases, it is likely Apple will make the Watch Series 7 available to buy at around $400 in the United States, considering the Watch Series 4, 5, and 6 have all launched at this exact price. In fact, the last premium Apple smartwatch priced differently was the Watch Series 3, which officially launched at $329 in the U.S. These are just the starting prices and with so many customization options available, including adding cellular, the cost of an Apple Watch can be much higher and the same is likely to be true with the Watch Series 7. Regardless, providing Apple does stick with the pricing approach it has used since 2018, then the 2021 smartwatch will start at $399 in the U.S.

Of course, 2020 also saw Apple introduce the first Watch SE model as well. Whether the company plans to release an updated version this year or wait until 2022 remains to be seen. If a new Watch SE does arrive in 2021, then consumers will have a new and more affordable option than the Apple Watch Series 7 to consider as well.
