One of the benefits of an Apple Watch is the ability to customize the experience and this includes changing the watch face on a Watch Series 6. Whether it is to suit a special occasion, for seasonal reasons, or to match the band currently being used with an Apple Watch, switching the watch face is one of the easiest changes to make.

The Watch Series 6 is the latest smartwatch to come from the house of Apple. Announced in late 2020, the smartwatch arrived along with the much cheaper but less capable Watch Series SE. Building on the features of the Watch Series 5, the 6-Series offers an increase in the number of health-related features, as well as the selection of colors and designs to choose from.

All the wearer has to do to change the watch face on a Watch Series 6 is swipe from one edge of the watch face to the other. It also doesn’t particularly matter if the user swipes from the left or from the right, so long as it is an edge-to-edge motion. With each swipe, Apple's wearable will cycle through the various watch face available, and the user just needs to stop swiping when they've reached the watch face they want to use. At which point, it will be automatically applied.

More Watch Faces & Customization

It is worth noting that the swiping motion cycles through the watch faces that are already in the Watch Series 6 wearer’s collection and not the entirety of the faces available for the smartwatch. For example, instead of swiping from one side to the other, the user can touch and hold the watch face to see faces not in their collection. Then it is just a matter of swiping to the one they want to use and tapping on it to set it as the current watch face. Alternatively, to add one of these to the Watch’s existing collection, press and hold the current face, swipe left until the last screen and tap on the New (+) button. Then use the Digital Crown to navigate to the watch face and tap on it to add the face to the collection.

In addition, Apple also offers the option to further customize the look and functionality of a standard watch face through the use of complications. For example, changing an element of the watch face to show something different, such as the weather. Which complications are available at the time will entirely depend on the watch face, considering they are related to the functionality of the faces. In other words, a sports or health-focused face is likely to support more sport and health-related complications than others. The user can check which complications are available for a specific watch face by touching the watch face and holding briefly. Then tap on Edit and swipe to the final screen where any available complications will be visible. To change one of the complications, tap on the one to be swapped out, turn the Digital Crown to select the new one, and press the Crown to save.

Overall, Apple makes it super easy to not only change the watch face, but also further customize the face in general. Apple Watch wearers can very quickly select one from the various faces in their collection or spend a little longer going through the additional ones available with the smartwatch. Once chosen, they then have the additional option to customize the Apple Watch Series 6 watch face even further by swapping complications.
