Apple Music's free trial period for new subscribers has been reduced from three months to one month. While Apple is primarily known as a hardware company, it also offers several subscription services, such as Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and Apple Music. The last mentioned is one of the largest music streaming services in the world alongside the likes of Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Music, etc.
Until now, Apple Music had been offering a generous three-month trial period to new subscribers worldwide. The time frame was longer than its competitors' typically offered and allowed would-be customers to evaluate the service better. That, however, is now changing, with the company reportedly cutting down that period from three months to one.
Starting this week, people signing up for Apple Music only get one month of free trial instead of the three months that users earlier received. The change is believed to have been first spotted by Japanese tech blog Mac Otakara, which says the change is being implemented across most major markets for Apple, including the United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Japan and more. The change is yet to be officially announced by Apple, but the Apple Music homepage now says, "Get 75 million songs free for 1 month." Thankfully, there's no apparent change in the monthly subscription rate, with the company still charging $9.99 per month for its music streaming service.
Get Six Months Of Apple Music For Free
Despite reducing the free trial period, Apple still enables new subscribers to get six months of Apple Music for free by purchasing select AirPods, Beats and HomePod devices. To activate the free six-month service, update the iPhone or iPad to the latest version of iOS or iPadsOS, then pair an eligible earphone to that device. Next, open the Apple Music app on that phone or tablet and sign in with an Apple ID that has not been used for an Apple Music subscription before. The offer should appear immediately after launching the app, but if that doesn't happen, it should still appear under the 'Listen Now' tab. Here, select 'Get 6 months free' to activate the offer.
The change in Apple Music's free trial period comes when Spotify is offering a two-month trial as a limited-time promotion in a handful of countries, including the United States. It also provides a three-month free trial to first-time subscribers who sign-up through Paypal. The company generally offers a one-month trial as a standard. Other leading music streaming services, such as Amazon Music and Tidal, also offer one-month trial periods. However, Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can increase that to 90 days when purchasing an eligible product.
