Noted Apple tipster and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has doubled down on claims that the vanilla iPhone 14 will have very subtle upgrades over its predecessor, while most of the significant changes will be reserved for the 'Pro' models. By all accounts, Apple is slated to launch four models as part of its next-gen iPhone lineup that is rumored to include the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Over the past few months, multiple leaks have revealed quite a bit of information about the iPhone 14-series, including their design, processors, and other details. Most of the rumors claim that the big bang upgrades, including the new notch-less design, the A16 processor, and higher-resolution cameras, will be limited to the two 'Pro' models. While the vanilla iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will have to do with rehashed components from last year's iPhone 13.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has reiterated long-standing rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will sport 48-megapixel main cameras, while the vanilla iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max models will stick with the existing 12-megapixel primary sensor found in the iPhone 13-series. The upgrade was first revealed by Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu last December before being reiterated by TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last month. The latest assertion from Gurman now seems to confirm the news.
iPhone 14 Rumors
Another long-standing rumor that Gurman seemingly confirmed over the weekend is about the new A16 processor. According to Gurman, the new A16 processor will be reserved for the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, while the vanilla iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will be powered by last year's A15 Bionic or a tweaked version of it. Gurman's report seemingly confirms the original leak from last month, which claimed that Apple might tweak the older A15 chip slightly and brand it as 'A16' while the actual A16 will be named 'A16 Pro' to differentiate between the processors in the base models and the Pro variants.
Another significant change expected in the iPhone 14 lineup is satellite connectivity, which has reportedly been in the works for several years. According to Gurman, it is not designed for making phone calls but for reporting emergencies from remote areas without cellular coverage. Gurman also claimed that the Apple Watch would also get the new feature, although it isn't immediately clear whether that will happen with this year's Apple Watch Series 8 or next year's lineup. Overall, many of the features of the upcoming iPhone 14 lineup have already been revealed in multiple leaks over the past few months, so it will be interesting to see if Apple will still have any surprises in store when the devices are unveiled this fall.
