Outside of the intriguing and mysterious premise behind Apollo 18, we know very little about the film, nor have we seen anything from it. The idea of a secret Apollo mission to the moon, one kept secret for decades, was good enough to pique our interest, so much so, that we chose Apollo 18 as one of our most anticipated movies of 2011.
Back in November, we reported on the idea behind the film of mixing factual evidence and footage with a fictional sci-fi-horror story, as it was released alongside the first Apollo 18 poster. That poster depicted an astronaut footprint beside that of an… alien. Over the months between then and now, all we’ve had is our anticipated and excitement, waiting for the first Apollo 18 trailer to debut. It’s now here.
The very intriguing sci-fi thriller about the last mission to the moon that no one ever heard about, Apollo 18 tells the story of NASA’s mission to space in the 1970s that everyone thought was canceled. The tagline, “There’s a Reason We’ve Never Gone Back to the Moon” is a very fitting description:
The film legitimately looks like it’s edited from 1970s footage from the moon, and that authenticity, combined with stock NASA footage is what will help sell this film and spread interest through word of mouth. The trailer does give away a lot however, it does keep secret what these aliens look like thankfully.
Official Apollo 18 synopsis:
Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 17th, 1972 was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later, in December of 1973, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.
Is Apollo 18 now something on your radar?
Apollo 18 is directed by Gonzalo López-Gallego and is scheduled to release March 4, 2011.
