Apex Legends Season 7 is bringing a ton of new content to Respawn Entertainment's battle royale shooter; in fact, it might be the biggest patch the game has ever seen. On top of the new map, Olympus, and the new Apex Games Legend, Horizon, Season 7 introduces the first vehicle ever to Apex Legends.

Vehicles have always been a big deal in any shooter they've been introduced in. From the original Warthog in Halo to Pykes in Destiny, vehicles can massively change how players move around the map and kill each other. A well-designed vehicle can be an awesome asset to a game, but an overpowered one can absolutely destroy the multiplayer experience.

Apex Legends' new Trident has some players worried, but Respawn has clarified how the vehicle will work, play, and what cool things players can do to change their games on Olympus.

What the Trident Does in Apex Legends

First and foremost, the Trident in Apex Legends doesn't come with any guns of its own and can't damage players by running into them; in fact, without player skills or ammo, there isn't a way to do damage with the Trident at all. This is an awesome way to ensure that players inside the vehicle don't have too much advantage over those who haven't found a ride. In fact, Respawn has been very clear that the Trident is primarily supposed to be a new way to move around Apex Legends' Olympus map.

Even if it's mostly a movement tool, there are some incredibly cool things that clever players can do with the Trident. Players are allowed to attach tactical and ultimate abilities to the vehicle to boost its capabilities. Some key abilities players can attach to the Trident are Rampart's minigun for added firepower, Gibraltar's shield for quick protection, or Caustic's traps to become a roaming poison gas cloud. The Trident's interactions with different Legends should result in fast-paced gameplay, where some of Apex Legends' characters are much better suited to catching a ride.

For players looking to take down a Trident, there are some important things to know. The first is that shots to the vehicle damage all players inside equally, meaning that the Trident is a fast-moving (but large) target that can be taken down with quick massive damage. That said, sharpshooting players can also shoot legends riding in a Trident directly and kill them off one by one. Additionally, it's been confirmed that Wattson's fences disable Tridents that try to dive through them. No matter how serious a firefight gets, however, the Trident will never blow up, unlike in the new Apex Legends cinematic. If enough damage is done to a Trident, the players driving it will die, but the machine will stick around for another squad to drive away.

Once players get their hands on the new Trident with the Olympus map in Season 7, they'll figure out whether it's overpowered, a death trap, or somewhere in between. For now, the vehicle will only be available on Olympus, but the Apex Legends team hasn't written off the possibility of the Trident appearing elsewhere in the Outlands in the future.
