A new audience will be able to experience the free-to-play battle royale, Apex Legends, when it arrives on Steam and the Nintendo Switch this fall. Cross-play between all platforms will also launch - as rumored - alongside the inclusion of new platforms. Regardless of whether the game is played on the PlayStation 4, PC, or the Nintendo Switch, developer Respawn is working to bridge the gap between players allowing all gamers to play together.

In addition to cross-play and new platforms, Respawn announced that a new event would be coming to Apex Legends very soon. While players will have to wait until fall for the launch of cross-play, the new in-game event will begin on Tuesday, June 23 during Season 5. The Lost Treasures event will feature event-exclusive cosmetics, new items, new locations, and the return of a fan-favorite game mode.

Apex Legends coming to the Nintendo Switch and Steam was announced alongside the Lost Treasures event during the EA Play live premiere. The premiere event showcased a variety of new titles and various game updates. Apex Legends shared that players will be able to cross-play between all five platforms this fall including PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Origin. How players will be able to cross-play was not shared, but players can expect more details in the coming months.

During the Lost Treasures event, the shotguns and snipers game mode will make its return with a few changes. Respawn beacons will no longer be scattered around the map in this game mode, but each player will start with a new item called the portable respawn beacon that can be placed anywhere on the map at any time to bring an eliminated teammate back onto the battlefield. These items can also be collect from the chests of eliminated opponents. The Fortune's Favor event will debut Mirage's heirloom which takes the form of a trophy shaped like Mirage. A new location named Crypto's Map Room will be introduced during the event which will give players a closer look into Crypto's backstory. Players will also be able to unlock exclusive cosmetics by completing challenges during the event.

As for Apex Legends launching on Steam, it will more than likely function the same as it does through Origin. With the Nintendo Switches limiting hardware it will be interesting to see how well Apex Legends runs. The Nintendo Switch struggles to run FPS games such as Fortnite and Overwatch, and this may mean that the Nintendo Switch will struggle to run a faster-paced FPS like Apex Legends. And with the introduction of cross-play will purchased cosmetics, legends, and currency transfer between platforms?
