With Season 6, Apex Legends is introducing a new playable character, and Respawn recently shared a trailer welcoming expert technician Rampart to the game. Rampart will be the 14th playable Legend, following the introduction of Loba in Apex Legends Season 5.

Apex Legends is approaching Season 6 with plenty of ambitious plans for the future. The most anticipated update is the upcoming fall release of the game on Steam. There isn’t a specific date as of yet, but developers have already offered a look at a few nice cosmetics that every Steam player will receive when Apex Legends premieres on Valve’s storefront. A total of three charms based on Half-Life and Portal will be made exclusive to Steam players, and there’s more coming to the game this fall. Apex Legends will receive native cross-play between PS4, Xbox One, PC (both Origin and Steam), and Switch - that’s right, Respawn’s battle royale is coming to Nintendo’s latest console. But first, players will meet a new Legend.

Respawn Entertainment offered the first look at Apex Legends’ new playable character, Rampart, in a stylish trailer. The video runs in reverse, eventually focusing on Rampart, who’s unleashing a hail of bullets from a gun turret. Legend’s key art features her holding a massive gun called Sheila, which is probably limited to usage through special abilities - otherwise, bearing a monstrous weapon while everyone else has just landed could be an unfair advantage. The trailer also offers a glimpse at an interactive bullet shield different from what Gibraltar has to offer. The shield in question seemingly lets the bullets of a defender to go through while reflecting all incoming projectiles. Whether it's another of Rampart’s high-tech toys or a new environmental addition remains to be seen.

On top of that, Season 6, which starts on August 18th, will introduce a completely new mechanic in crafting. It will basically allow players to collect resources and create makeshift pieces of equipment if they can’t loot the items they want right away. Specific details on this particular addition haven't been revealed. With a new season inevitably comes a new battle pass with dozens of exclusive items, including legendary cosmetics. Season 6 also adds a new ranked season to conquer with special flight trails as a gift for those who manage to climb to the top. Last but not least, Season 6 "Boosted" will introduce a new weapon, the energy SMG Volt, which is actually another borrowed gun from Respawn's Titanfall 2.

Judging by the brief reveal, Rampart looks like she’s going to alter the Apex Legends meta once again with her machine gun transforming into a stationary firing point. Apparently, she will be mostly used for defense, but it seems like the character’s turret could be countered by Crypto’s EMP or Gibraltar’s bubble. That being said, adding a new Legend with a distinctive gameplay style is a welcome step by Respawn, and players will probably find a lot to like upon her arrival.
