A professional Apex Legends player managed to reach Diamond rank in ranked play using only grenades and melee punches. The game's eighth season has introduced new gameplay mechanics to enrich the overall experience, but some players are content to use base game fundamentals to challenge themselves.

The newest addition to Apex Legends’ gameplay is the Heat Shield, a tactical item takes a dedicated slot in the inventory. Many players have discovered they prefer to carry the Heat Shield at all times due to its usefulness. Once activated, the item creates a Gibraltar-like force field, which protects everyone inside from circle damage and allows players to heal themselves much faster. Visually, the Heat shield is reminiscent of Gibraltar’s Dome of Protection, but unlike it, the new item does not deflect incoming player damage.

French Apex Legends player Mpé managed to climb up to Diamond in the game’s ranked leagues using only grenades and melee attacks. This is quite an astounding achievement, especially considering that the majority of players can’t rank up to Diamond even with the whole in-game arsenal of weapons at their disposal. The esports pro created a dedicated Apex Legends smurf account aptly named OnlyNadePunch. Mpé shared his impressive achievement on Twitter, adding a couple of short video clips with his smurf's most impressive plays. He also posted an in-game screenshot with Season 8 stats, revealing an impressively high kill/death ratio.

Another big addition in Apex Legends Season 8 is the solo queue, which allows players to take on squads alone. There’s now a special checkbox in the game’s matchmaking menu that adds a no-fill option for lone wolf players. This is a great opportunity for professional gamers to try and earn the cherished badge Legend’s Wake without dropping solo and leaving teammates to fight on their own. Additionally, no-fill can be used to complete specific challenges or test new characters without ruining other teammates' matches.

While most players struggle to progress in Apex Legends’ ranked leagues with their favorite weapons, some are able to achieve wild goals with no weapons at all. The recent example clearly shows that there’s a huge skill gap between athletes and common folk. There’s no doubt that Mpé’s achievement is impressive, but regular players must’ve suffered a lot from being punched to death and overwhelmed with throwables. After all, the majority of players just want to have fun instead of facing a crazed, unarmed Bloodhound.
