The Holo-Day Bash event begins today in Apex Legends, featuring the return of the Winter Express. The Bash also introduces themed character skins and weapons for players to collect.

The event begins soon after the launch of Apex Legends' Season 7. The season got off to a rough start after players complained about the Battle Pass, which required much more grinding in order to level up than Battle Passes in past seasons. Apex Legends' developer Respawn responded to the complaints and made adjustments to the Battle Pass, but it seems that the return of the Holo-Day Bash event is coming at the right time, in order to bring back any potentially lapsed players.

Apex Legends announced the start of the Holo-Day Bash event Twitter. The seasonal event features the return of the Winter Express, the moving holiday-themed train where players battle. This year, the Winter Express will have five objective locations, and players will be able to collect new themed character skins and weapons during the Bash. The event also introduces new flying hover tanks. While they're currently decorated to fit the Holo-Day Bash's holiday theme, players can likely look forward to the addition of the tanks in Olympus, the city in the sky where Season 7 is taking place. The Bash officially begins today.

Respawn has discussed even more ways it's looking to update and improve Apex Legends in the near future. While the game is built around the battle royale concept that has shot it (alongside Fortnite) to popularity, Respawn revealed that it is open to moving away from the battle royale genre, and are actively exploring other ways to utilize Apex Legends' growing cast of characters and their abilities. Respawn also announced earlier this year that Apex Legends would be ported to the Nintendo Switch and Steam, with cross-play available across all platforms, but the Switch release has already been delayed until 2021.

With the rocky beginning to Season 7, Apex Legends needs a way to significantly boost its player retention, and the Holo-Day Bash looks to be the solution. Bringing back a celebrated holiday event like the Winter Express, and improving upon it with the addition of new skins and the flying hover tanks, will attract new and old players alike. The Holo-Day Bash event will show Apex Legends players that it is still a game worth investing in, especially as Respawn continues to improve and build upon the standard battle royale format in the future.
