Respawn has announced Apex Legends Champion Edition, which comes packed with all characters unlocked and a handful of legendary skins for both heroes and weapons. The reveal comes shortly after the game has finally entered the cross-play era, uniting audiences on consoles and PC.

Apex Legends received cross-play support last week with a dedicated update. The welcome addition came with a few restrictions, as Respawn says it believes that enabling cross-play should be approached with caution and thoughtfulness. As such, the feature ultimately unites only console players on Xbox One and PS4, who now belong to a single matchmaking pool by default. PC players, however, are being held back a little, as they are not allowed to join the console matchmaking pool alone. Still, all three major platforms can meet in a single match if a squad of friends consists of players on PC , Xbox One , and PlayStation 4. In that case, they are all put in the PC matchmaking pool.

The newly revealed Apex Legends Champion Edition comes with all the additional characters unlocked from the start, including the as-yet-unannounced one, according to Respawn. The next hero is expected to join the battle with the upcoming Season 7, which shouldn’t be too far away, considering that there’s less than a month left until the end of Season 6. The Champion Edition will also treat players with legendary character skins for Wraith, Crypto, and Revenant. Costumes will be accompanied by stylistically matching cosmetics for three weapons - Sentinel, Flatline, and Triple Take. Last but not least, the Champion Edition has an adorable golden Nessie charm to offer topped with 1,000 Apex Coins to spend. Presumably, on the upcoming Season Pass - as the Champion Edition will become available for $39.99 with the start of Season 7 when the next Legend is officially revealed.

Right now, the end of Apex Legends Season 6 is still more than 20 days away, and there’s plenty of time for players to unlock seasonal rewards including various cosmetics and brand new Holosprays. The most notable addition to the game, however, was the new Legend, Rampart - a combat technician capable of building fortifications and firing points with heavy machine guns. The community was also treated to a new energy SMG called Volt, which expectedly turned out to be another established weapon from the Titanfall universe. On top of that, crafting mechanics were introduced to the game allowing for more generous resource management and adding another level of complexity to the battle royale.

Despite the laudatory title, Apex Legends Champion Edition feels more like an introductory release rather than a premium one. It allows newcomers to immediately test any existing Legend, which might be helpful to learn the game’s basics. There’s currently no official information on who the mysterious new Legend might be, but given Respawn’s tradition of subtle announcements, the hero could have already been hinted at by the development team. Whoever the character turns out to be, they will likely alter the meta once again.
