The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer focuses on Kang the Conqueror, but it still hides the movie's real villain, MODOK. After debuting as He Who Remains in Loki, Jonathan Majors returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a significant way with Ant-Man 3. The first film of Phase 5 will heavily feature the character ahead of his massive roles in the next two Avengers movies. Marvel is teeing up Kang's role heavily in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's first trailer, as his new blue face and costume, giant army, and Quantum Realm base were all teased. However, the marketing campaign is still hiding the main villain.

One of the surprises to come from the Ant-Man 3 trailer is that MODOK is not featured. The Marvel villain known for his big head and tiny body is nowhere to be seen in the footage, even though MODOK is expected to be Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's main villain. The lack of attention given to MODOK is surprising considering Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and director Peyton Reed already confirmed the villain's presence in the movie at San Diego Comic-Con. That version of the trailer even included a brief shot of Ant-Man 3's MODOK, but Marvel decided to remove the scene from the officially released trailer.

Why MODOK Is Missing From Ant-Man 3’s Trailer (After Already Being Confirmed)

Kang with glowing power in his hands in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The reason MODOK is missing from Ant-Man 3's trailer is likely due to Marvel's desire to keep the focus on Kang for the time being. The trailer sets him up as a significant threat within the Quantum Realm, as Janet van Dyne seemingly fears him from her time trapped there. Even if Kang is not the main villain of Ant-Man 3, he will be an overarching threat to the MCU. It makes sense then that Marvel would give Kang more of the spotlight here so audiences can become more familiar with the villain who will eventually terrorize the Avengers.

Marvel did still manage to seemingly tease MODOK as Ant-Man 3's main villain, even without showing him. There is an exchange where Kang asks Scott Lang for his help in exchange for sending him home. The footage does not reveal what exactly is endangering Ant-Man's life or loved ones, but it very well could be MODOK. Rumors suggest that Ant-Man 3's MODOK has an established history with the Ant-Man family, so that could be the reason why Ant-Man and Kang work together in the movie.

Is MODOK Working For Kang In Ant-Man 3?

The positioning of MODOK as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's main villain does not mean that he will not have a connection to Kang. It certainly seems like Kang reigns over the Quantum Realm, so that could mean he has some control over MODOK. With the Ant-Man 3 trailer positioning Jonathan Majors' villain as a bit more friendly, it could be misdirection to hide just how manipulative Kang is. That is why it would not be surprising if Kang pulls some strings and makes MODOK look like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's villain if it means furthering his plan for multiverse conquests.
