Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will alter the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever, featuring a larger scope than either of its two predecessors. While the Ant-Man sequel is most exciting for kicking off the beginning of Phase 5 and introducing Kang the Conqueror in the MCU ahead of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, the film must be careful not to shortchange its already existing characters in the process. In fact, this may be the MCU's last chance to pay homage to two of Quantumania's most important characters, who happen to be vital to the fabric of the Marvel Universe.

While the Quantumania trailers have revealed little about the plot so far, it appears as though the film will see Scott Lang become trapped in the Quantum Realm along with his family and friends, including his daughter Cassie and his girlfriend Hope, as well as Hope's parents, Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne. There, they will run across a litany of enemies, including Kang the Conqueror and Darren Cross, now in his MODOK form, as they attempt to escape back to their dimension. Each of these characters' lives appears to be in danger during the events of Quantumania, with any one of them potentially about to meet their untimely demise therein.

Hank Pym And Janet Van Dyne Need To Suit Up As Ant-Man And The Wasp One Last Time

Quantumania must finally deliver on Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas's casting as Janet van Dyne and Hank Pym, respectively. These two legacy actors are both immensely talented and have plenty to offer the Ant-Man franchise if utilized correctly. Douglas, for his part, has had several memorable moments and plenty of screentime since his first appearance, whereas Pfeiffer has only appeared as Janet in a handful of scenes so far. Quantumania's first trailers suggest that the upcoming sequel will finally get Hank and Janet back into action, and the best way to do so is by having them suit up as Ant-Man and the Wasp one more time.

While much of Quantumania's hype is focused on Cassie Lang's transformation into the superhero Stature, the film must not forget who its original heroes are. Hank and Janet were the first Ant-Man and Wasp in the MCU, serving their country for years in total secrecy before passing on their mantles to Scott and Hope. Furthermore, Hank and Janet's comic book counterparts were part of the first Avengers lineup in Marvel Comics, remaining integral to the team ever since. While Hank and Janet have been featured during their superhero days in brief flashbacks, these two iconic characters deserve to be seen in all their glory at least once in the present day.

Will Quantumania Be Hank And Janet's Last MCU Film?

The latest trailers for the upcoming film certainly imply that Ant-Man may die in Quantumania, but he may not be the only casualty therein. Given that the Ant-Man franchise will likely be finished after its third film, there may not be many opportunities for Hank or Janet to return in future projects, making it seem all the more likely that one or both will meet their untimely demise during Quantumania's events. Hank, who himself has narrowly avoided death on several occasions, would be a tragically perfect choice for the film's big death, especially now that his family has finally been put back together after so many years apart.

Janet, on the other hand, seems to be far more likely to survive than her husband. Quantumania's trailers have revealed that Janet van Dyne may have worked for Kang during her time in the Quantum Realm, hinting that there is far more to her story that remains to be explored. Furthermore, having just been introduced during Ant-Man and the Wasp, Janet is a far newer character than Hank, lending to the idea that she may not be finished in the MCU just yet. Nevertheless, both Hank and Janet will certainly be in imminent danger during Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, signaling the MCU's last chance to honor these unsung heroes.
