Michael Douglas reveals he's getting ready to film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, saying Hank Pym is back and so is his goatee. Douglas played the maverick physicist in 2015's Ant-Man and reprised the role in Ant-Man and the Wasp, as well as Avengers: Endgame, in a scene where he was significantly de-aged. Aside from Douglas, Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man) and Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp) have appeared in both Ant-Man films. Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet Van Dyne) joined the franchise for Ant-Man and the Wasp, which also introduced the Quantum Realm to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will once again feature the four main cast members. Director Peyton Reed, who helmed the first two entries, will also return. Jonathan Majors will play the villain in the movie, Kang the Conqueror. Pfeiffer suggested via Instagram in December 2020 that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania would release in 2022, meaning production would likely have to take place this year, in order for the extensive CGI required for a movie like this to be completed. Now, Douglas has hinted cameras will roll on the production sooner rather than later.
Douglas, who turns 77 later this year, posted an image of himself as Hank, along with the logo for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. He also hinted filming on the project starts soon, saying he's growing back Pym's trademark goatee in preparation. Douglas also indicated the movie will get a 2022 release, though a firm date isn't mentioned. You can see the post below:
The news means that after a barren 2020 for MCU fans, 2021 and 2022 are looking up. Not only will Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania likely start filming soon, a number of other Marvel productions are currently underway. That includes Thor: Love and Thunder, which Chris Hemsworth has confirmed he'll begin shooting this week and Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, which has been filming since late last year. This in spite of the pandemic, which pushed production back on a number of film projects in 2020.
As for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, anticipation for the movie is arguably higher than it was for the two previous entries in the franchise, especially given it will delve deeper into the Quantum Realm and potentially open up the MCU to new storylines and possibilities. Provided everyone on set stays safe and COVID protocols are followed correctly, fans will get to see how Scott Lang's story continues next year.
