Laurence Fishburne, who isn’t officially confirmed to be reprising his Marvel Cinematic Universe role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, gives an update on Bill Foster’s future. Fishburne first appeared as Dr. Foster, a former associate of Hank Pym and an expert on quantum physics, in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. The film introduced the concept of the Quantum Realm, which went on to play a major role in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Now, the Quantum Realm will return in director Peyton Reed's Ant-Man 3 film, which is slated for release in July 2023.

Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer are all reprising their respective roles of Scott Lang, Hope Van Dyne, Hank Pym, and Janet Van Dyne. Joining them is Kathryn Newton as a now grown-up Cassie Lang, Jonathan Majors as Marvel's time-traveling, universe-jumping villain Kang the Conqueror, and Bill Murray in an undisclosed role. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is also rumored to feature an appearance by the villain, MODOK (played by either Jim Carrey or Corey Stoll), and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, who recently made her MCU debut in Disney+’s Hawkeye. While principal photography has wrapped, plot details for Ant-Man 3 are being characteristically kept under wraps. However, the film will likely further explain the inner-working of Marvel's ever-evolving multiverse.

During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Fishburne was asked if fans can expect to see him reprise his MCU role of Bill Foster in any upcoming films or shows. The actor gave a very unclear answer, not only about his Ant-Man future, but his MCU fate. Keeping in line with the answers of many MCU actors when questioned about their role, Fishburne responded with a simple, "What if I told you I don't know? I don't know.”

At the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp, Foster and Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) went into hiding in hopes that they could find a cure for her molecular disequilibrium; leaving the door open for both characters to return. In the comics, Foster becomes the giant hero known as Goliath. He and Scott did have a conversation about the former’s personal record, 21 feet, but Fishburne did not grow massive in that film and there have been no hints about Foster since.

It’s worth noting that when John-Kamen was recently asked about her MCU character, the actress said, "She's good. She's very good ... I won't say anything more about her!" So, for all audiences know, they could be seeing both characters very soon. Fishburne's comments are just vague enough to leave Foster's return on the table. However, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is, like so many other MCU Phase 4 projects, shrouded in mystery. With or without Fishburne's return, though, the only certainty is that the pivotal Quantum Realm will be playing a big part in the movie's plot — and will likely have big consequences for the wider MCU.
