Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Kathryn Newton has posted new workout photos amid training for her role as Cassie Lang in the upcoming release. Ant-Man’s third installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees the return of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne. Newton is not the only newcomer to the cast, as Jonathan Majors is also set to make an appearance as Kang the Conqueror following his debut in the recent Disney+ series, Loki.
Newton’s new role as the daughter of Scott Lang will not be the first iteration of Cassie that fans have seen in the MCU. Young Cassie Lang, played by Abby Ryder Fortson, had a fairly prominent role in the first Ant-Man film, as well as a handful of scenes in sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp. However, following the events of Thanos’ Snap in Avengers: Infinity War, the next time fans saw Cassie's character was in a tear-jerking scene in Avengers: Endgame. Scott returns home after being stuck in the quantum realm for five years to find his now-teenage daughter, played by Emma Fuhrmann. Cassie had presumed her father had vanished in the snap, and their reunion was an emotional one.
Now, Newton has posted new photos on Instagram that have got fans questioning whether Cassie could be taking on an even bigger role in this third Ant-Man installment. The photos show Newton in workout gear in the gym, as if she is in training for something. Newtown accompanied the post with the caption, "Honestly why I haven’t been posting." Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania began filming earlier this summer, and so the timing of these photos could certainly line up with Newton’s appearance in the film. Fans will know by now that a lot of behind-the-scenes training tends to go into the action sequences in Marvel movies. Stars such as Chris Hemsworth and Brie Larson having previously shared details on the intense workout regimes they adopted in order to prepare for their respective MCU films. Given that, it's not hard to see why fans are now wondering if Newton could have some action scenes of her own in the upcoming Ant-Man sequel.
Fans have speculated for a while that Newton’s addition to the MCU may potentially tie in with the rumoured focus on the Young Avengers, who could be prominent in Phase 4 and beyond. With the release of two new Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye, later on this year, it does seem as though Marvel could be slowly building their line-up of Young Avengers. However, fans will have to wait a little while longer to see just what Cassie Lang will get up to, as Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently slated for an early 2023 release.
