Anthony Mackie, who stars in Disney+'s upcoming series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, says he knows everything that happens in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4. Mackie, whose first MCU role was in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, has appeared in five Marvel Studios projects since that time, including three Avengers movies.

Much was made of the future of Mackie and Falcon in the MCU following the dramatic ending of Avengers: Endgame when an elderly Captain America/Steve Rogers returns to pass the iconic shield along to Mackie's Sam Wilson. There's been a lot of speculation as to whether Wilson will take up the Captain America mantle going forward, and Mackie has tried to stifle it by saying an ongoing theme in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be Wilson trying to decide what exactly should be done with the shield. Now Mackie says that not only does he know the future of his own character as it pertains to a new Captain America, but he also knows everything about the MCU Phase 4.

Speaking with ET Canada, Mackie was asked how much he knows about his character's future. He said Marvel Studios "sat me down and gave me the whole spiel" not just on Falcon and Captain America, but on everything MCU Phase 4:

This phase is very different than the first phase. There are a lot of interesting characters that they're bringing to life and a lot of different things that will be happening that people won't expect. I'm excited to see the audience's reactions to everything.

Mackie elaborated as best one can given the strict secrecy of Marvel Studios' projects, saying the bold new direction laid out in WandaVision, the official kick-off of the MCU Phase 4, is the beginning of a "very different" direction for Marvel. The actor said, "People are gonna be blown away." Unlike Mackie's Marvel Studios co-star Elizabeth Olsen, who already has a lead role in an additional Phase 4 title (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), the potential future Captain America has yet to be officially announced in any upcoming projects.

With the first film set in MCU Phase 4, Black Widow, has yet to even hit theaters and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, and the third Spider-Man movie all set for release this year, there's going to be a lot of Marvel Studios ground to cover very quickly. All this is complicated by the news Chris Evans is nearing a deal to return to the MCU in some capacity (though audiences do know it likely won't be in another Captain America movie).

It's already a very different era for the MCU. Two streaming series are unexpectedly kicking off the new phase. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says he isn't even ready to say when the MCU Phase 4 is going to end. However, one recurring theme Mackie brought up again is that Marvel fans should be expecting the unexpected going forward. Hopefully, more will be revealed when The Falcon and the Winter Soldier debuts in March.
