Anthony Mackie would like to clarify that, despite what Avengers: Endgame would have fans believe, Falcon has America's ass, not Captain America. Mackie first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and quickly because one of Captain America's closest friends. The friendship extended off-screen as well as Mackie and Chris Evans, who starred in five MCU movies together, became tight (even after Evans spoiled the ending of Endgame for Mackie). There is still room for some "professional" rivalry though.

In one instant classic scene from Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and Scott Lang travel back through time to the Battle of New York to retrieve Infinity Stones. As Tony is watching 2012 era Captain America, he jokes to Steve his old superhero suit did nothing for his physique, to which Scott replies, "As far as I'm concerned, that's America's ass." While later battling a past version of himself, future Steve stops to take a peek and admits, "That is America's ass." The scene has gone on to become a fan-favorite, especially for Steve's surprising and hilarious comment about himself. However, now it seems Mackie disagrees with Steve's assessment.

Speaking to KFC Radio, Mackie wanted everyone to know he really is the Avenger with the best butt and is worthy of the title "America's ass.":

Chris and I laugh and joke about it all the time. I have a much better ass than Chris Evans. So one day we’re gonna do the biking shorts test, or the compression shorts test, and we’re gonna have everybody choose, which is America’s ass. I think it’s gonna be 50/50 split. Some people like their pizza lightly toasted, some people like a little bit of char on their pizza, you know what I’m saying? So it’s all about how you like your buns cooked.

While most fans assumed that, following the ending of Avengers: Endgame when Old Man Cap passes on the shield to Sam, that would mean he would be the new Captain America, Mackie isn't so sure about that saying, "at no point in time, did [Falcon] agree to or say that [he] would be Captain America." Viewers will find out exactly what that means when the upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres. Falcon's role in the show could help settle the debate over who has "America's ass" once and for all.

However, don't count out Steve just yet. This week, it was revealed Marvel Studios and Evans are working out a deal that would have him return for future MCU projects. It's unknown if any of these would include Mackie's Falcon. It's also worth noting Evans later posted a cryptic message on social media, saying "news to me." Though it's fairly common for actors to be unable to comment on castings until confirmed, fans may have to wait a little bit longer to see if Falcon or Captain America have the superior superhero seat on screen. Regardless, it seems Mackie is ready to put his money where his mouth is with a proper test one day, complete with bike shorts.
