Acting legend Anthony Hopkins officially joins TikTok. The 82-year-old Oscar winner has a career dating back to the 1960s. He's perhaps best known for his role as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs and its sequels, Hannibal and Red Dragon, but younger fans may also know him as Odin from the MCU Thor movies, or his scene-stealing role in the Michael Bay sequel, Transformers: The Last Knight. Over the years, Hopkins has peddled in big-budget blockbuster action, character-oriented drama, and everything in between.

Meanwhile, the TikTok scene is blowing up with Drake's latest viral challenge, the Tootsie Slide. The memetic dance move has gained traction with the social media platform, and everyone and their grandmother are performing the Tootsie Slide. In an inexplicable development, the latest celebrity to go viral doing the Tootsie Slide on TikTok is none other than Sir Anthony Hopkins, a man few ever thought would add "TikTok dancer" to his résumé.

In a news story that can only be described as "inexplicable and awesome," Hopkins released a video on TikTok in which he performs Drake's hot new Tootsie Slide and challenges both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone to a dance battle. Or possibly a real fight. It's not 100% clear. In the short video, he name drops Lulu, Schwarzenegger's pet donkey and puts up his dukes while invoking Stallone's iconic Rocky Balboa.

While people all over the world remain quarantined due to the Coronavirus pandemic, actors and other performers have taken to social media to perform for their fans. While one might expect Hopkins to perform a Shakespeare sonnet like fellow UK actor Patrick Stewart, the unexpected TikTok video comes as a pleasant surprise. Even at 82, Hopkins displays some smooth dance moves and a remarkable sense of humor.

There's an expectation that older UK actors like Hopkins might be inclined to take themselves overly seriously, but Hopkins' TikTok performance demonstrates that is clearly not the case. It remains to be seen how Stallone and Schwarzenegger react, or if they're too chicken to take on Hopkins in a dance battle. Either way, if this whole thing ends with the three legendary actors releasing a full-length music video of Tootsie Slide, then perhaps some good will have truly come from all of this madness.
