Ant-Man & The Wasp Trailer Gets Fan-Made Animated Mashup

A new fan-made clip has re-imagined the Ant-Man & The Wasp trailer as an animated DreamWorks movie using footage from Antz and Bee Movie. Ant-Man & The Wasp is the highly anticipated sequel to 2015's Ant-Man, starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas and directed by Peyton Reed. In the original movie's mid-credits scene, it was teased that Lilly's Hope van Dyne would be suiting up for real in the next installment as The Wasp, giving the superhero duo joint billing for the forthcoming sequel.

Ant-Man & The Wasp's genuine trailer was released by Marvel Studios last week and showcased the central trio as they are forced to deal with the consequences of Scott Lang's actions in Captain America: Civil War, in which he aided the political rebel, Steve Rogers. The trailer also highlighted the movie's strong comedic element - something that the original movie was roundly praised for - and built plenty of hype for the proper debut of The Wasp as she effortlessly took down enemies with technology Lang himself apparently wasn't trusted with.

One thing definitely not present in the Ant-Man & The Wasp trailer, however, are family-friendly anthropomorphic bugs. That is, until now. YouTube channel Darth Blender has posted a mash-up of Ant-Man & The Wasp's audio track with visuals from DreamWorks' 1998 animation debut Antz and 2007's Bee Movie. With Lang/Ant-Man seemingly cast in the role of Z, Hank Pym portrayed by Weaver and The Wasp voicing Bee Movie's Barry B. Benson, the fan trailer tells the story of two distinct heroes and even features a brilliant, custom-made logo.

The sound and visuals match up surprisingly well, with beats from the legitimate Ant Man & The Wasp trailer syncing hilariously with the actions and mouth movements of their animated counterparts. Interestingly, Lang's question to van Dyne about whether or not she would've fought for Captain America ties directly into the military-style scenes of Antz, with the marching insects conjuring up images of a very different Civil War. Scott Lang will also be highly disappointed to learn that both The Wasp and Barry B. Benson manage to get their stingers on a blaster of some variety.

Above all, of course, the mashup is a highly amusing and fun riff on a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has never taken itself too seriously (with flying Pez dispensers involved, how could it?). And with the incredibly serious business of Avengers: Infinity War not far away, Ant-Man & The Wasp will likely be tasked with lightening the mood somewhat in the MCU.
