The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for an almost perfect streak of Fresh Rotten Tomatoes scores, but Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania reviews are giving the MCU the franchise's second Rotten score in 31 movies. Despite an impressive streak of 24 MCU movie releases in a row with Fresh Rotten Tomatoes scores, Eternals became the first MCU movie with a Rotten score, landing at 47 percent, and now Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania marks the second blight on the MCU's nearly spotless Rotten Tomatoes record.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quanumania's first wave of reviews haven't been glowing, giving the movie a Rotten 53 percent on the Tomatometer. It's not quite as low as Eternals' 47 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, although it could still fall a few more points, but it's close to the MCU's lowest score and significantly lower than Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Here's how its score compares to the rest of the MCU and the effect it has on the franchise's average Rotten Tomatoes score.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Has One of the MCU's Worst Rotten Tomatoes Scores

Before Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the MCU's average Rotten Tomatoes score was a fresh 83 percent, 30 points higher than Ant-Man 3's 53 percent score. It's six points higher than Eternals 11 points lower than Thor: Love and Thunder, and 13 points lower than Thor: The Dark World, the three lowest-rated films in the MCU. Despite the MCU's 83 percent average, Phase 4's average wasn't quite as strong, coming in seven points lower at 76 percent, so Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quanumania (the first Phase 5 film) is 23 points lower than the Phase 4 average.

When it comes to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's reviews from Rotten Tomatoes' specially selected "Top Critics," the score is quite a bit lower at 39 percent, only two points higher than Eternals' Top Critic Rotten Tomatoes score. While the MCU only has two Rotten ratings in Rotten Tomatoes, Top Critics tend to rate the movies quite a bit lower, giving them an average of 76 percent, 23 points higher than Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's Top Critic score. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (59 percent) The Incredible Hulk (53 percent), Thor: The Dark World (51 percent), and Thor: Love and Thunder (51 percent) also have Rotten Top Critic scores.

The Ant-Man Trilogy Now Has The MCU's Lowest Rotten Tomatoes Average

The first Ant-Man's Rotten Tomatoes score is 83 percent, exactly the same as the MCU's average, and Ant-Man and the Wasp's Rotten Tomatoes score is 87 percent, giving the Ant-Man movies an 85 percent average before Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's 53 percent score brings the trilogy average to 74 percent. This gives the Ant-Man trilogy the lowest average Rotten Tomatoes for any character to receive at least a full MCU trilogy.

The rankings for the MCU's best sub-franchise with at least a trilogy of movies from best to worst is Spider-Man with a 92 percent average, Captain America with an 87 percent average, Iron Man with an 82 percent average, Thor with a 75 percent average, and now Ant-Man with a 74 percent average. Prior to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the Ant-Man trilogy was tied with Captain America for second place with 87 percent, but Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania brings it down to the lowest solo-character average in the MCU.

Ant-Man 3 Continues the MCU's Trend Down in Rotten Tomatoes

When Does Ant-Man And The Wasp Quantumania Release Disney Plus

Iron Man kicked off the MCU with a bang, and its 94 percent Rotten Tomatoes score is still the second-highest score in the franchise. Phase 1 of the MCU had an 80 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, Phase 2 improved slightly with an 81 percent score, and Phase 3 improved yet again with a substantial 89 percent Rotten Tomatoes average. Unfortunately, the franchise has been trending down since then, with Phase 4 averaging 76 percent, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania reviews starting off Phase 5 with a 53 percent score.

While the MCU hasn't entirely lost its touch, with Phase 4 movies like Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings scoring 91 percent and Spider-Man: No Way Home scoring 93 percent, but the franchise average took a significant downturn after Eternals. After Thor: The Dark World and before Eternals (a 17-movie stretch), the MCU's lowest Rotten Tomatoes score was Avengers: Age of Ultron's 76 percent; however, including Eternals, four of the MCU's last six movies have come in under 76 percent (two of them earning Rotten scores).

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's Rotten Tomatoes Score Could Go Even Lower

Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Jonathan Majors as Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania

Currently, Ant: Man and the Wasp only has 147 reviews submitted to Rotten Tomatoes, while most MCU movies end up with an average of 377, with Phase 4 averaging 404, meaning there's significant room for the Rotten Tomatoes score to swing as more reviews come in. While this means the score could hypothetically go up, MCU scores almost always trend downwards after the initial wave of reviews means Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's score will likely end up a few points below its current 53 percent.

The rolling average for the last 60 reviews for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has averaged between 40 and 50 percent Fresh. Assuming the movie ends up in that 377-404 total review range and the remaining reviews remain in that 40-50 percent range, then the final score will be between 45-51 percent. This means the score will likely drop at least two points from its current 53 percent, but there's also a chance it could drop below Eternals' 47 percent, which would make Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania the MCU's new lowest Rotten Tomatoes score.

Of course, all reviews are subjective, and the MCU's box office and Rotten Tomatoes audience scores (which isn't available for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania just yet) shows the MCU is still extremely popular. While Ant-Man and the Wasp's negative reviews and low Rotten Tomatoes score and a general downward trend in reviews for the franchise may indicate the MCU is losing its luster with some critics, but so long as the strong fan base and audiences continue showing up to support the franchise as they have been, then Phase 5 of the MCU could still be as strong as ever.
