Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania calls back to one Ant-Man moment in Captain America: Civil War. The third film in Marvel Studios' Ant-Man franchise sees Paul Rudd don the Ant-Man suit as Scott Lang once again, traveling into the Quantum Realm with his family, where they find themselves battling the formidable Kang the Conqueror. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania harks back to the MCU's history several times while fully introducing the Multiverse Saga's major villain, debuting new heroes in the franchise, and laying the foundations for some epic upcoming projects in the MCU's Phases 5, 6, and beyond.

During the first project of the MCU's Phase 5, Scott finds himself stuck in the Quantum Realm with Hope, Hank, Janet, and his daughter, Cassie, now played by Kathryn Newton after Emma Fuhrmann briefly took on the role in Avengers: Endgame. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania features Cassie suiting up for the first time in a size-changing suit of her own, though it's unclear whether she will be taking on her Stature or Stinger monikers from Marvel Comics. The relationship between Scott and Cassie is put front-and-center in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, with one moment in particular perfectly mirroring a previous Ant-Man scene.

During the final battle against Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, both Scott and Cassie grow larger than anything else in the Quantum Realm, with Scott halting Kang's escape, and Cassie taking on MODOK, a.k.a. Darren Cross. Coming together for a brief moment, the pair mention how they could really use some citrus, with Cassie's hope for a lime harking back to Scott's line in Captain America: Civil War. After growing big during the Avengers' airport battle, Scott wonders whether anybody has any orange slices, so this moment in Quantumania is a brilliant and simply way to show the connection between Scott and Cassie.

Why Ant-Man & Cassie Lang Want Citrus After Getting Big

The fact that both Scott and Cassie ask for citrus fruits after growing huge has a basis in reality and links directly to the reason they are both so hungry after growing big, too. Growing that size would certainly use a lot of energy and probably lower their blood sugar and dehydrate them, so the use of citrus fruits after shrinking back down would help them to recover quicker, even though they would have still been minuscule in comparison to those outside the Quantum Realm. This technique is used by sportspeople in competitions, who drink sports drinks that rehydrate them faster and are packed full of electrolytes.

This could also simply be a side effect of Quantum travel, especially since it would take a huge amount of energy to shrink small enough to enter the Quantum Realm. In Avengers: Endgame, Clint Barton test-runs the time-travel device designed by Tony Stark, and when he returns to Avengers HQ, Scott Lang can be seen walking up to him holding orange slices in his hands in preparation. The callback to these small moments in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania make Phase 5's first project feel better connected to the wider world of the MCU, which could only spell danger as multiple variants of Kang the Conqueror have now been unleashed.
