Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Ant-Man and the Wasp: QuantumaniaAs exciting as it was to see Cassie Lang join her father in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the new MCU movie failed the character in one major way. Played by Kathryn Newton, Cassie Lang is older in the post-Blip world following the events of Avengers: Endgame, now an 18-year-old trying to help those in need while her dad Scott (Paul Rudd) enjoys life as a famous Avenger. However, the entire Ant-Family finding themselves in the Quantum Realm provides the perfect opportunity for Cassie to show off her very own suit in the MCU.

In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Cassie builds a device capable sending signals down to the Quantum Realm, only for it to inadvertently create a portal that pulls the entire Ant-Family down to the subatomic universe. Facing the forces of an exiled Kang the Conqueror, it's soon revealed that Cassie already has a purple suit that utilizes Pym particles (which Hope and Hank likely helped her create). However, Cassie's debut as a hero in the MCU is surprisingly limited by the film's end.

The MCU Didn't Do Cassie Lang's Superhero Reveal Justice

Scott, Cassie, and Hope in Ant-Man and the Wasp - Quantumania

Unfortunately, the beginning of Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania elects to tell rather than show viewers why Cassie had to be bailed out of jail, protesting the police who were forcing out displaced persons thanks to Thanos and the five-year Blip. As such, Cassie is already heroically minded prior to the beginning of the movie with a strong drive to help those who can't help themselves. Likewise, she also confirms she already has her own suit. Putting those two together and the MCU essentially had a pre-packaged young hero ready to follow in her dad's footsteps. Although that's less than ideal for a hero's debut, it didn't go far enough either.

Seeing as how Cassie already had the heroic mindset and the suit to go with it, it's reasonable to expect that she would have come up with or been given her very own superhero name in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. In the original comics when she becomes old enough to be her own hero, Cassie's taken the name Stature, Stinger, and Ant-Girl at various times. However, her MCU counterpart doesn't get any of those names during this subatomic adventure and is simply known as Cassie. Choosing a name could have been her hard-earned moment, even if was depicted humorously as names often are in the MCU.

Marvel Still Has Time To Get Cassie Lang's Superhero Story Right

By not receiving any kind of codename from the comics or even something new, there's a feeling of disappointment seeing as how Cassie didn't really evolve in this new MCU movie. She already wanted to use her skills to help others, and she already had a suit. Aside from learning how to fight better using Pym particles, there wasn't much development for Cassie despite the fact that she had her first adventure alongside her dad Ant-Man in the MCU. However, it does look like Marvel Studios intends to give Kathryn Newton's Cassie Lang more appearances in the future of the MCU. Here's hoping she'll soon be given more room to grow than she got in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
