Does Ant-Man & the Wasp Have An End-Credits Scene (And How Many)?

advertising

Ant-Man & the Wasp is the latest blockbuster hit from Marvel Studios, but does it have an end-credits scene? The short answer: yes! Marvel Studios didn't invent the end-credits scene, but they've certainly turned it into something of a trademark. And yet, things seem to be changing a little at the House of Ideas; the Russo brothers actually considered not giving Avengers: Infinity War a post-credits scene at all. They ultimately decided to film a brief clip, but the fact remains that Marvel almost considered abandoning this tradition.

UPDATE: Read our explanation of Ant-Man & The Wasp's post-credits scenes here.

To Marvel visionary Kevin Feige, the end-credits scenes are a way of honoring viewers who, like him, never want the film to end. As a self-confessed "film nerd," he'd deliberately sit through the credits in order to prolong the experience. Then, during production of Iron Man, he spotted the perfect way to reward viewers like himself; Marvel added their first post-credits scene, with Nick Fury welcoming Iron Man (and viewers) to the MCU. The end-credits scene became an instant Marvel tradition. Sometimes these post-credits scenes are humorous; in fact, the Captain America PSA in Spider-Man: Homecoming poked fun at the fans who stay through the credits. Other times, though, they're crucial setup. Two post-credits scenes - those from Ant-Man and Doctor Strange - have even been clips from future films, promising the return of their titular heroes.

And, don't worry, the latest release doesn't break their habit. Ant-Man & The Wasp has two post-credits scenes: a mid-credits scene and an end-credits scene. We are not, however, going to spoil these scenes for viewers. Marvel's end-credits scenes are carefully designed to build momentum from one film to the next, and it's important audiences experience them in the context they were intended to be viewed. We will say, though, that the first one is an absolute must-see, while the second is more comedic.

The next year's worth of Marvel movies is essentially weaving a single, continuous narrative. Avengers: Infinity War's cliffhanger ending saw half the life in the universe erased with a snap of Thanos's fingers, and next year's Avengers 4 is expected to undo that. Although both Ant-Man & the Wasp and Captain Marvel are being released out of sequence, they're expecting to introduce concepts and characters who will prove crucial to either undoing or averting the "snap". Given that's the case, viewers are eager to see how these films' stories tie into the fabric of the MCU's overarching story. The mid- and end-credits scenes frequently serve as the kind of connective tissue that binds the films together.
