The Wasp and Ant-Man looking to the same direction in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

It looks like Ant-Man & the Wasp is undergoing reshoots in Los Angeles, with the entire opening of the film reportedly being reshot. With Avengers: Infinity War right around the corner, much of the summer movie hype has been focused on Marvel's upcoming team-up. But only two and a half months after the epic is released, the sequel to Ant-Man will arrive and introduce Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp. From what we saw in the Ant-Man & the Wasp trailer, the film takes place before the events of Infinity War, but will introduce concepts that could have a major impact on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After Ant-Man touched on the idea of the Quantum Realm, Doctor Strange went on to fully explore alternate dimensions. It seems that Captain Marvel will deal with the Quantum Realm as well, but only after Ant-Man & the Wasp further explores that mysterious dimension. It's thought that next year's Avengers 4 could involve a good bit of dimension hopping, so Ant-Man & the Wasp could play an important role in setting that up. Hence, there's all the more reason for Marvel Studios to make sure the film is in tip-top shape, by way of reshoots and additional photography.

Though there are only a few months until Ant-Man & the Wasp arrives, Italian site Bad Taste is reporting the film is about to undergo additional photography. While this is normal for a blockbuster film, the site's source claims that the movie's entire opening sequence is going to be reshot. Set in South America, the sequence apparently didn't play well with test audiences and will now be replaced with something new. The Ant-Man & the Wasp reshoots are further set to take place in Los Angeles, which is why production on Captain Marvel is currently underway.

Captain Marvel officially began filming in Los Angeles just this week, so it makes sense that the reshoots for Ant-Man & the Wasp would take advantage of the facilities and crew members already in place there. Of course, with both movies shooting in LA and dealing with the Quantum Realm, that could hint at a nod to Carol Danvers being added to the Ant-Man sequel.

There's a fan theory that Captain Marvel is set in an alternate timeline, given that it's set before almost every other MCU film released to date, yet its intergalactic war and main character has never been mentioned before. If dimension-hopping figures into the equation, that could explain how Captain Marvel fits into the larger continuity of the MCU. Avengers: Infinity War may touch on related ideas if Thanos gets ahold of the Reality or Time Stones, but Ant-Man & the Wasp is in a position to explore that concept more thoroughly.

It would make sense for Captain Marvel and Ant-Man & the Wasp to connect directly in certain ways, and the news that both will be filming in LA around the same time makes the idea all the more plausible. Leaked set photos from the Ant-Man & the Wasp reshoots could shed more light on the situation too, so best to stay tuned for more.
