Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) is one of the few main villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to survive the movie's ending, so what happened to her after Ant-Man & the Wasp? When the Ant-Man sequel was released, the MCU was in a state of unrest after Thanos had eliminated half of all life in the universe. Ant-Man & the Wasp's post-credits scene showed how this catastrophe pulverized Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and their daughter Hope (Evangeline Lilly) in the precise moment that Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) needed them to bring him back from his brief trip into the Quantum Realm. Their previous fight with Ava Starr a.k.a. Ghost resulted in the team helping her harness a small ration of quantum energy to temporarily prevent her from phasing out of existence before she escaped with her adoptive father Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne). Although Janet promised to keep providing her with energy to treat her ailment, Ghost's fate is unknown after disappearing while the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were taking place.

In the comics, Ghost is primarily an Iron Man villain with a cryptic past. His real identity is a mystery, but some clues suggest he once was a talented data engineer who came up with a cutting-edge piece of tech called GhostTech, which would be used to revolutionize computer chips. However, his project was hijacked by his corporate higher-ups, who manipulated him and exploited him with no regard for his psychological well-being. This led him to fuse with his invention, gaining the ability to make himself and other objects invisible and intangible, plus the brainpower of a supercomputer. Although the MCU changed most of the character's backstory and turned him into a former SHIELD stealth operative who gained her ghost-like powers following a quantum accident, many of the original character's storylines in the comics could hint at what's coming for his cinematic counterpart.

Since Ghost actress Hannah John-Kamen herself has stated that the most certain information about her character's fate is that she survived, there are a few roads Marvel can take with the villain. The most straightforward one would be to have her appear in an upcoming MCU movie or Disney+ show. Her ties with SHIELD and her need to keep a low profile makes her a good candidate for an appearance as a secondary villain in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but her powerset can also make her an optimal addition to other titles like Loki and Ms. Marvel. Considering Marvel hasn't confirmed any plans for Ant-Man 3 in the next few years, it's highly probable that Ghost will join other MCU characters before facing the shrinking hero again.

Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost in Ant-Man & The Wasp

The most popular theory that's also supported by the comics is that Ghost will be a founding member of the Thunderbolts, a team of seemingly rehabilitated villains assembled by Baron Zemo (played by Daniel Brühl in the MCU) who take the role of superheroes but carry on with their nefarious deeds under wraps. Its most important members have already been introduced in the movies, with Zemo and General Ross (William Hurt) having played vital roles in Captain America: Civil War and Taskmaster making his cinematic debut in the upcoming Black Widow. As a recurring member in the comics, Ghost would be a no-brainer addition. As with a third Ant-Man installment, there are currently no plans for a Thunderbolts movie, but the evil team can appear in other titles, most probably in Hawkeye, as the archer has led the team at one point in the comics.

The question with the troubled Ava Starr isn't if but when she will resurface in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is eager to bring Ghost back some time in the future since Ant-Man & The Wasp did a great job at making her stand out from other villains as a mere victim of her circumstances. She's been lucky enough to survive inconceivable threats, so everything points at an extensive range of possibilities for her return in the ever-growing universe of Marvel movies and TV shows.
