An amazing Ant-Man cosplay brings back his iconic original costume - the one the MCU only hinted at. Ant-Man has been a fixture of the Marvel Universe for over 60 years, and was even a founding member of the Avengers. Ant-Man is a pillar of the MCU as well, but when his first film debuted in 2015, his outfit was much different than its comic counterpart. Now, cosplayer redpym_cosplay brings back the iconic original outfit for fans to see in real life.

In a photo shoot shared on Instagram, redpym_cosplay shows off the costume, worn at Fantasy Basel, aka 'The Swiss Comic Con.' The first photo is a close up of Ant-Man, allowing fans to see this comic-accurate costume in all its glory; the helmet is ultra-realistic, looking exactly like it would have in 1962. The second photo shows redpym_cosplay using photographic trickery to shrink against the backdrop of a suburban neighborhood.

Ant-Man Cosplay Is the Suit Movie Fans Missed

Ant-Man first appeared in 1962’s Tales to Astonish #27. Originally, Hank Pym’s story of shrinking down to the size of an ant was just another science fiction feature, no different from those appearing in Journey Into Mystery or Tales of Suspense. However, the story proved popular, and Marvel brought him back, this time as Ant-Man, in Tales to Astonish #35. The Ant-Man identity has since been passed between several heroes - most famously Scott Lang, portrayed by Paul Rudd in the movies. However, both Lang and Pym (played by Michael Douglas) are shown in a redesigned, modernized suit. Fans do get to see a glimpse of the original helmet thanks to Avengers: Endgame's time travel, but the kitsch, '60s sci-fi design never got a true showcase.

MCU Fans Only Got a Glimpse of Ant-Man's Original Look

There is an undeniable charm in the original Ant-Man’s outfit - it is a clean, simple, and yet memorable design, and one that broadcasts its purpose with two insectoid antennae. However, in the MCU, Hank Pym designed the suit with military applications in mind - part of a general trend towards a more militarized aesthetic in the movies. The antennae that made sense for a scientist going on freaky adventures with brand new tech just don't work for what's supposed to be a combat suit in the movies. The comic costume was a little too bizarre to make it into live-action, but thanks to this cosplay, fans can see how it would have looked if Pym's suit had started out with its comic design.

Marvel fans love to scour the movies for hidden comic references, and Ant-Man's original helmet is one of the best in the MCU. However, now Marvel fans don't need to make do with a movie Easter Egg, as redpym_cosplay brings the entire original Ant-Man costume into real life.
