'Ant-Man' Set Photos Reveal Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly in Danger

Ant-Man cowriter Adam McKay may direct a Marvel Movie

The exciting first trailer for The Avengers: Age of Ultron may have thrust Marvel's Superhero All-Star Sequel to forefront of the overall fan consciousness, but let's not forget about the studio's other big release of 2015: director Peyton Reed's potential franchise-starter Ant-Man. The film is now well into the production phase, with set photos of star Paul Rudd (as Scott Lang) having surface from the first shooting location in San Francisco.

Our first glimpses from the set of Ant-Man were missing any kind of action shots, but now that production has shifted to Atlanta, we have images of stars Michael Douglas (Dr. Henry Pym) and Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne) in peril, courtesy of Just Jared (via CBM).

The most arresting image is easily that of Evangeline Lilly - sporting her "Waspy" hairdo - supporting Michael Douglas' Henry Pym, who appears to have suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder. We can also see that several fire engines in the shot painted to resemble those of San Francisco, which means that the Atlanta location is doubling for the City by the Bay.

We also see Michael Peña (Fury) as a member of the Pym Technologies security personnel, responding to the emergency. What exactly is going on and where in the story does this take place? Could this be one of the "new action beats" added to the script by Adam McKay?

Ant-Man Yellowjacket Corey Stoll

According to The Citizen, Ant-Man will be shooting some large-scale sequences overnight at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta until October 31, which will include "gunfire, explosions and pyrotechnics." The film's code name is BigFoot, and is evidently the work of "Pym Particles Productions, LLC."

There is a noted lack of Paul Rudd A.K.A. Scott Lang on this particular set, which could mean that this sequence is indeed from early in the film, and possibly the first attack on Pym by the villain Darren Cross/Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll). Does the immediate aftermath of this scene contain the moment where Pym realizes he needs to entrust the Ant-Man technology to his protegee Lang?

Expect far more speculation on the film's story as more set pictures inevitably become available.

Ant-Man opens in theaters on July 17, 2015.
