Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) went from a comic relief character to a real hero in a short amount of time, and here’s his complete Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline so far. The more the MCU expands, the bigger the chance for other characters from Marvel Comics to join this connected universe, more so as the MCU has introduced its multiverse and has explored different branches within it, such as its cosmic side and its supernatural one.

Of course, not everything in the MCU is dark and serious, and it has introduced characters who lean more toward a comedic side, though that doesn’t mean they are less heroic. Such is the case of Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-Man, who made his debut in the MCU’s Phase 2 in his first solo movie, simply titled Ant-Man. Scott has since joined the Avengers in the battles against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame and is also the first to come face to face with Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It hasn’t been an easy road for Scott Lang before and after becoming Ant-Man, and here’s his complete MCU timeline to show how much he has grown.

In an effort to be a better person and father, Scott took a job at the security company Vistacorp, but he found out that they were overcharging their customers. Scott thought it was a coding error and changed it, but the company was doing it intentionally. Scott was ordered to revert his corrections before he was fired, but that was only the beginning. Scott later broke into the Vistacorp Headquarters to hack their system and pay its customers back, but he also broke into the CEO’s mansion and stole a couple of things before driving his car into the pool. Scott was arrested and sentenced to three years in San Quentin State Prison.

Scott Lang Becomes Ant-Man - 2015

Scott Lang was released from prison in 2015, and he was sure he would find a job thanks to his master’s degree, but his friend Luis (Michael Peña) told him that ex-convicts struggled to get employment… and he was right. Scott got a job at Baskin-Robbins and used an alias so he could be given the job, but they eventually found out about his past and Scott was fired. After an awkward reunion with Maggie at Cassie’s eighth birthday party, in which she told Scott he couldn’t see Cassie until he had a job and paid child support, Scott saw no other choice than to accept Luis’ offer of helping him with the heist he had been planning but other ex-convicts. Their target was a retired mogul whose money was protected by insurance, so nobody would really be hurt by the heist, but to their surprise, the vault didn’t have cash or jewels, instead keeping blueprints, test tubes with some mysterious liquid, and a suit with a helmet. Scott took the suit and helmet anyway, and unbeknownst to all of them, the retired mogul, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), had been watching everything.

Back at his hotel room, Scott tried the suit on and started experimenting with the buttons on the gloves, discovering that one of them shrunk him to the size of an ant, with Pym communicating with him through the suit. After he finally figured out how to return to his real size, Scott broke back into Pym’s house to return the suit, but he was arrested outside by police officers called by Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and sent back to jail. Once there, Pym visited and explained to him that he was the one who planned the heist and passed the information to Luis, as he wanted to test if Scott was the right man to take the mantle of Ant-Man. Scott refused to become Ant-Man but accepted Pym’s help to escape from prison thanks to a group of ants and the suit.

Pym and Scott met after that, with Pym explaining to him that he needed Scott to steal the Yellowjacket Suit from Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), who had tried to recreate the Pym Particles and created the suit, which had the potential to destroy the world. Pym and Hope trained Scott, and once he mastered the suit and other abilities, they planned their mission to steal the Yellowjacket Suit, but there was another stop before that.

Before stealing the Yellowjacket Suit, Pym sent Scott to retrieve a Signal Decoy held inside an old building used by Tony Stark, explaining that Scott would need it when stealing the suit. However, Pym wasn’t aware that the old building had become the Avengers Compound, and though he asked Scott to return, the latter decided to continue with the mission. Scott wasn’t counting on the Falcon’s (Anthony Mackie) goggles being able to zoom in on him, and he didn’t believe Scott when he tried to reason with him. Falcon and Ant-Man had a big fight, which culminated when Falcon’s wings malfunctioned and made him crash, allowing Scott to escape. Falcon was impressed by Ant-Man, as he was looking for new, talented people to join the Avengers.

Ant-Man Battles & Defeats Yellowjacket - 2015

Yellowjacket prepares to attack in Ant-Man

After Darren Cross arrived at Pym’s home with the intention of killing Pym, he let Scott, Hope, and Pym know that security measures had been taken as he knew they planned on stealing his Yellowjacket Suit. Scott asked for Luis, Kurt Goreshter, and Dave’s help, and he battled Yellowjacket, but he was arrested again outside the facility. However, a dispatch call announced there was a hostage situation at Maggie’s house, and Scott knew Darren was behind it. Yellowjacket and Ant-Man fought again, now at Maggie’s home, and Ant-Man realized that the only way to stop Yellowjacket was by shrinking even more and damaging the suit from the inside, though that meant possibly being trapped in the Quantum Realm. Ant-Man succeeded as Yellowjacket was crushed to subatomic size, but he also shrunk to subatomic size and arrived at the Quantum Realm.

Luckily, Ant-Man found a way to return from the Quantum Realm and he reunited with Cassie. After that, Jim Paxton dropped the case against Scott and he started a relationship with Hope, and most importantly, he was allowed to visit Cassie and spend more time with her.

Scott was later informed that Falcon was looking for him and he ended up being recruited by Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) after the fallout caused by the Sokovia Accords, which divided the Avengers team into two: Team Iron Man and Team Captain America. Scott was taken to Berlin to join Team Captain America, and he was very excited to help him and the other members of the team. Unfortunately, fighting alongside Team Captain America led to Ant-Man being imprisoned again, and along with Hawkeye, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), and Falcon, he was taken to the Raft. They were all aided by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and escaped, but knowing he was still a wanted man, Scott (as well as Clint), made a deal with the government to be placed under two years of house arrest instead of returning to the Raft.

One day, Scott was kidnapped by Hope, who took him to her and Pym’s laboratory, where they had been working on a portal to the Quantum Realm. While Hope picked up the component they needed for the portal from a black market dealer, she had to use her Wasp suit to take the component from him, but she was attacked by a mysterious figure. Scott put on a prototype Ant-Man suit and helped Hope, but the same figure beat them and stole Pym’s mobile laboratory as well. Scott ended up teaming with them to get the lab back, and in the process, they met the previously mentioned mysterious figure: Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen).

Ant-Man vs. Ghost - 2018

Ghost was quantumly unstable after an accident that killed her parents as her father tried to replicate Pym’s Quantum Tunnel, and she had concluded that she needed to harvest Janet van Dyne’s (Michelle Pfeiffer) quantum energy to cure herself, thus why she needed the lab and the portal. In another attempt to keep the lab safe, Hope, Scott, and Pym used ants to disable the machines in the lab so Ghost and her guardian, Bill Foster, wouldn’t be able to access the Quantum realm, drawing Ghost out and Pym going inside the lab. Ant-Man then fought Ghost, but his suit was malfunctioning and didn’t allow him to escape, though that allowed Pym to enter the Quantum Realm before the lab was shrunk again.

Hope and Ant-Man eventually got the lab back and managed to give Hank and Janet enough time to come out of the Quantum Realm, so Hope finally reunited with her mother. As for Ghost, Janet put her hands on her to stabilize her and stop her from phasing, and after that, she left. Back home, Scott’s house arrest was over, and the first thing he did was visit Cassie, Maggie, and Jim.

Not long after, Scott arrived in Luis’ van with a portable Quantum Tunnel for Hope, Janet, and Pym, as they were looking to extract energy from the Quantum Realm to continue curing Ghost. Because of this, Ant-Man was trapped in the Quantum Realm for five years and was able to return to the regular world thanks to a rat that casually walked across the van’s hood and activated the tunnel’s control panel. Scott escaped from the storage room where the van was kept and was confronted by a depressing world where half of life in the universe had disappeared. Scott eventually made it to the Avengers Compound in Luis’ van and told them about his experience in the Quantum Realm, proposing the idea of time traveling through the Quantum Realm, a plan that was polished with the help of Bruce Banner/Smart Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.).

Paul Rudd Ant-Man in Avengers Endgame Time Travel Suit

After various tests, the Avengers were ready for the Time Heist, with Ant-Man traveling to 2012 with Bruce Banner, Captain America, and Tony Stark in order to retrieve the Tesseract and the scepter. Unfortunately, things didn’t go exactly as planned and they could only get the scepter, while 2012’s Loki escaped with the Tesseract, but they found a solution that not only got them the Tesseract but also more Pym Particles. Back in their present, Smart Hulk mounted the Infinity Stones in the Nano Gauntlet and brought everyone who vanished back, but the Time Heist unleashed the biggest battle the MCU has seen to date, as a past version of Thanos invaded the character in their present. Ant-Man fought in the Battle of Earth, where he was later joined by Wasp.
