No stranger to shrinking technology, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids actor Rick Moranis was considered for a cameo in the first Ant-Man movie, according to director Peyton Reed. In fact, Moranis still has a chance at fitting into a possible Ant-Man 3.

As Marvel Cinematic Universe fans will recall, Edgar Wright was originally set to write and direct the first Ant-Man movie but eventually exited the project due to creative differences with the studio. Since Marvel Studios wasn't interested in delaying the movie any further than its 2015 release date, they quickly hired Anchorman writer-director Adam McKay to write a new draft of the script, with Yes Man director Peyton Reed signing on to helm the project. And one of the things that Reed wanted to bring to the table was a Rick Moranis cameo.

As a guest on Screen Junkies' "Honest Reactions: Ant-Man and the Wasp Director Reacts to Honest Trailers," Reed mentioned that he wanted to cast Moranis in the first movie, had Moranis not retired from acting (though he hasn't appeared on camera, he has lent his vocal talent to various radio commercials, as well as voiceover work in Disney's Brother Bear film series). And, while he never specified exactly what role Moranis might have played, Reed says:

"We actually, at one point, attempted to get a Rick Moranis cameo in the first movie - still during the period, I think, where he wasn't doing so much acting. I think he's now gonna be on the CTV Scorsese-directed thing, which I'm super psyched about. But always, still, an unchecked box for me."

Cassie and Scott Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp

Amid the casual banter pertaining to Moranis, Reed also noted that he'd still consider including Moranis in a possible Ant-Man 3. Jumping off of the idea that the likelihood of a Moranis cameo has better odds now that the actor is officially taking on new acting projects, Reed lightheartedly mentioned the possibility of having Moranis star as Scott Lang's father.

Given the familial relationship between Hope van Dyne and Hank Pym, expanding from the first movie to include Hope's mother and Hank's wife Janet van Dyne (played by Michelle Pfeiffer) in Ant-Man and the Wasp, exploring Lang's backstory seems all the more likely. Aside from his daughter, there is little in the way of Lang's blood relatives. So, if Moranis does take Reed up on an offer to star in Ant-Man 3 (assuming another Ant-Man film gets greenlit), audiences might get the chance to see where exactly Lang got his sharp wit and comedic timing from. What's more, Reed would finally be able to check off that aforementioned box to bring Moranis aboard once and for all.
