Why Ant-Man Is Even More Important Than We Thought In Avengers: Endgame

With Avengers: Endgame drawing near, it's becoming increasingly clear that Ant-Man is going to be more important to the film than we originally thought. The size-changing, wise-cracking superhero entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2015, as Paul Rudd first played Scott Lang in the Ant-Man solo film. A scaled down budget lowered expectations and made the movie a hit, giving Marvel Studios the ability to push a sequel through development.

Once Ant-Man and the Wasp was released last summer, it was obvious that Ant-Man would have a big role to play in Avengers: Endgame. He was left stuck in the Quantum Realm after Thanos' snap dusted Wasp, Hank Pym, and Janet van Dyne. But, the warning he received about time vortexes immediately sounded like a planted piece of information that could also be the key to bringing back everyone who was lost. The trailers for Avengers: Endgame have yet to show that this will be the case, but they're not shying away from showing Ant-Man anymore.

In the latest Screen Rant video, we take a look at Ant-Man's role in Avengers: Endgame, and detail how he'll likely be even more important than previously believed. His increased importance for the movie is not even a direct result of his own doing. As we explain in the video at the top of the post, he's actually become even more important to the film after the release of Captain Marvel.

Ant-Man and Captain Marvel

Scott had previously been part of the key to theories about how the Quantum Realm would play a role in Avengers: Endgame. The currently unclear amount of time he'll spend in there will likely result in him having an even greater understanding of what the realm is capable of, such as time travel. However, it was also previously thought that the MCU's version of Carol Danvers could receive her Captain Marvel powers from the Quantum Realm. This would make her and Scott the two most knowledgeable people about it, but then this was proven to be incorrect in Captain Marvel, as her powers actually come from the Tesseract aka the Space Stone.

The sudden increased importance of Ant-Man in Avengers: Endgame (at least in the minds of fans) is par for the course with him. He's often one of the most overlooked characters in the MCU, despite having one of most unique power sets of them all. Any information he passes along about time vortexes makes him necessary to the larger story, if the time travel theories are true that is, but he could also be more powerful when he next appears. Janet had brand new powers after spending decades in the Quantum Realm, so if Scott is trapped down there for several months or even a few years, he could have the same. If not, then Ant-Man will still be incredibly important to the story of Avengers: Endgame - and without having to do anything remotely involving the Thanos butt theory too.
