Following the impending release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, actor Michael Douglas would be up to return as Hank Pym in a possible Ant-Man 4 under one shocking condition. Douglas, a Hollywood legend, joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2015's Ant-Man and has appeared in every movie of the Paul Rudd-led franchise since. Hank Pym would be pretty much guaranteed to return in Ant-Man 4 — if the movie happens — and Douglas knows what he would want the character's story to be.Speaking to THR at Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's premiere, Douglas revealed what would get him to return for Ant-Man 4. He said, "As long as I could die."

According to the actor, he would only return if the sequel to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania included a death — Hank Pym's. The Ant-Man franchise would lose a lot if the original bearer of the mantle was to be killed, although the Scott Lang trilogy has been leading up to a new generation taking over right from the start.

How Hank Pym's Death Could Fit Into A Possible Ant-Man 4

Marvel Studios producer Stephen Broussard recently revealed that talks are already happening between important people like Kevin Feige and director Peyton Reed about a potential Ant-Man 4. With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania about to introduce the new overarching villain of the MCU in Kang, the usually lower stakes franchise will soon be at its most popular, which bodes well for Hank Pym's MCU future including Douglas' wish.

Speculation on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has largely revolved around Rudd's Scott Lang possibly being killed by Kang in the movie, but that death would not make sense in context of Douglas' red carpet answer. If the actor is positioning Hank Pym to die in Ant-Man 4, it would appear that Scott Lang would need to be alive for the franchise to even carry on with that name. If Scott and Hank are both in Ant-Man 4, the latter's death could come as a great sacrifice scene in the movie's climax, with Douglas' character passing on the title of Ant-Man to the younger Scott Lang once and for all.

That death scenario would be both heartfelt and fitting for the family themes in the MCU's Ant-Man franchise. While that choice could effectively see Douglas walk off into the sunset, there is another way the MCU has presented for Hank Pym's ending. The What If...? animated series included a multiversal story where Hank Pym became a superhero murderer while trying to get revenge for his daughter Hope's death in a SHIELD mission. The MCU could choose to adapt a version of that dark story, if Hope were to die fighting Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Hank Pym could become the new Yellowjacket and tragically die in Ant-Man 4.
