Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania director Peyton Reed takes to Twitter to announce the threequel's filming start with a photo of the ugly bunny from the first film. The third installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series will see Paul Rudd return as Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, alongside Evangeline Lily as Hope van Dyne, aka Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne. The film will also see Freaky star Kathryn Newton take over the role of Cassie Lang from Avengers: Endgame's Emma Fuhrmann and Jonathan Majors carry on the role of Kang the Conqueror after his variant introduction in Disney+'s Loki.

With Ant-Man and the Wasp seeing even higher reviews and box office numbers than its predecessor, development slowly got underway on a third film while Marvel Studios focused on Avengers: Endgame until Reed officially signed on to return with Rudd, Lily and Douglas in late 2019. Though filming was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Marvel hired Rick and Morty alum Jeff Loveness to pen the script in early 2020 and Majors officially being cast in September. Due to the interconnected nature of Kang and Loki's He Who Remains, Reed worked with another Rick and Morty alum Michael Waldron and director Kate Herron to cast the role for the series as well as the film.

On the heels of Comic-Con@Home coming to a close, Reed took to Twitter to share the exciting news that principal photography has begun on Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania. To celebrate the occasion, the director shared a photo of Cassie's ugly bunny doll Scott gifted to her in the original film. Check out the adorably hideous announcement below:

Given many fans are still reeling from the Loki season 1 finale surprise arrival of Majors' He Who Remains and the swift setup for his arrival as Kang, the start of filming should come as exciting news. Additionally, with well over a year-and-a-half to go until the film's scheduled release date, Reed should have more than enough time to not only craft the film's unique story but also allow its cast members the opportunity to flex their comedic improv skills for some moments of hilarity. With the high bar already set by its predecessors, the continued faith Marvel has in Reed and the cast as well as expanding its roster of writers to include more out of the box voices certainly makes the prequel one of the more hotly-anticipated in the MCU's future schedule.

On top of the announcement of filming having begun, Reed's photo of the ugly bunny doll on set of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a nice little ode to the fans who have followed the films thus far. It also poses an interesting question of whether the doll will be hidden as a background Easter egg in the film or if it hints towards the now-older Cassie having a bigger role and moving towards becoming one of her heroic comic book counterparts. Only time will tell when the film hits theaters on February 17, 2023.
