Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania reportedly starts filming in May, with production wrapping in September. While the Ant-Man series has never been one of the biggest sub-franchises in the MCU, the character's previous two standalone films have proven to be successful. 2018's Ant-Man and the Wasp grossed $622.6 million worldwide, a considerable increase from the original's $519.3 million haul. Both of those figures rank in the bottom half of the MCU's all-time global box office chart, but they were still profitable due to the projects' modest budgets. With that in mind, Marvel is moving forward on an Ant-Man 3.

After reshuffling Phase 4 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Marvel Studios has finally entered its post-Infinity Saga era and is back in full swing. Even with the health crisis still a major issue around the globe, Marvel has several movies currently in production, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder. From the sound of things, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is poised to join their ranks in the not-too-distant future. Stars Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly both said Ant-Man 3 is gearing to shoot this summer, and that's exactly what's happening.

It's previously been stated Ant-Man 3 is targeting a 2022 release date, and this timeline would put it on track to reach theaters next year. Marvel already has a lot on their plate in 2022, with four new movies scheduled to come out (in addition to their Disney+ TV shows). That would seem to be more than enough for a single year, though Marvel does have an October 2022 release date set aside for an untitled movie. The prior two Ant-Man films were both summer blockbusters, but Marvel has next summer covered with Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Panther 2 debuting in May and July, respectively. Ant-Man 3 could slide into that October 2022 window, especially since Guardians of the Galaxy 3 isn't releasing until 2023. It'll be interesting to see what happens on that front, since it's also possible the new Blade movie comes out in 2022.

Even though Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania doesn't begin filming for another couple of months, several details have already been revealed. During Disney's Investor Day last December, Marvel confirmed the principal cast, which includes Jonathan Majors as villain Kang the Conquerer and Kathryn Newton as the older Cassie Lang. Perhaps in the build-up to May, additional supporting cast will be announced. It's been confirmed T.I. isn't returning as Dave, but there's been no word on Michael Peña reprising the fast-talking Luis yet. It's hard to picture Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania without Luis, so hopefully his return (and a few other details) are revealed soon.
