Kevin Feige reveals that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the most important MCU film to the franchise's overarching story since Avengers: Endgame. Team Ant-Man is facing off with their most dangerous foe in Kang the Conqueror in the Peyton Reed-directed threequel. Unlike its predecessors, the film has explicit ties to the bigger MCU, especially its efforts in setting up the Multiverse Saga.

In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Feige claims that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the most important MCU film since Avengers: Endgame. Watch the clip below:

Ant-Man 3 has been described as peak MCU. Now, Feige continues to hype its importance in the franchise. Admittedly, it's interesting that Marvel Studios is going big for the threequel, but it's all part of its storytelling approach of seeing some of the most underestimated heroes in the franchise go up against its next big bad.

Of all of our films we've done since Endgame, this is the one [Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania] that connects most to the bigger picture, and that's what I'm excited about. Phase 4, we introduced a lot of fun great characters on Disney+ and in theaters, all of whom will be very important going forward. But now, finally kicking off Phase 5, people are going to start to see the bigger picture as we get towards the next Avengers film. So I'm very excited for that part.

Why Ant-Man 3 Is As Important As Endgame In The MCU

Kang in Loki and Ant-Man in Endgame

The upcoming Marvel Studios film isn't as grand and epic as Avengers: Endgame, which was the culmination of the franchise's Infinity Saga. But considering how the Multiverse Saga is shaping up, it isn't difficult to believe that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be very important to the universe's future. For starters, it will officially introduce Kang the Conqueror — the MCU's next big bad after Thanos. The Avengers will face him in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Secondly, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will refine the laws of the multiverse. Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness all tackled the concept, but Marvel Studios could delve deeper into it in the upcoming blockbuster. Specifics about the multiverse are still murky at this point, and Scott Lang and his team's fight against Kang can clarify details that would help in establishing MCU's long-term narrative.

So, while Avengers: Endgame and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania are both significant in the MCU, the reasons for their importance are different. The 2019 blockbuster served as the payoff for the franchise's first decade of storytelling. Meanwhile, the upcoming threequel will function as the launchpad for the universe's next big arc. Regardless, both are essential viewing for anyone who is invested in the MCU.
