Ant-Man 3 Trailer Confirms A Massive Janet Van Dyne Theory

The first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has arrived, and it not only gave the audience the first look at Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror but it also confirmed a massive theory about Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer). As the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently exploring the multiverse in its Multiverse Saga, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is going to be one of, if not the most important movie in this new era, as it will be the proper introduction of the MCU’s next big villain: Kang the Conqueror.

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame and will see Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), Janet van Dyne, and Scott’s daughter, Cassie (Kathryn Newton), accidentally traveling to the Quantum Realm. As they explore this mysterious universe and come across strange creatures, the family soon learns there’s a big and threatening presence in this realm, waiting for them. The trailer gave away enough to create hype and anticipation, and it confirmed a big theory about Janet van Dyne: she already knew about Kang.

How Janet Van Dyne Knew About Kang

It was revealed in Ant-Man that Janet van Dyne was trapped in the Quantum Realm and thus was believed to be dead, but in reality, she had been living in that dimension for decades. Janet, just like Hank, worked for S.H.I.E.L.D., and Pym created the Wasp suit for her, which has the same capabilities as the Ant-Man suit along with a pair of wings. During a mission in 1987, their only option to disarm a missile was to shrink to a subatomic level, but they wouldn’t be able to return. Janet sacrificed herself to complete the mission and shrunk to a subatomic level, becoming trapped in the Quantum Realm for decades. As Hank spent years studying the Quantum Realm and trying to find a way to bring Janet back, she met other civilizations while trapped in that dimension, and she eventually became part of one of them, allowing her to survive.

Janet was finally rescued in Ant-Man and the Wasp thanks to the combined efforts of Scott, Hank, and Hope, and she continued her life with Hank, with whom she worked on a way to find a cure for Ava Starr a.k.a. Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). As time works differently in the Quantum Realm, Janet spent long enough in that dimension to get to know the many corners of the Quantum Realm and the creatures living in it, so it’s not that surprising that she knew about Kang’s existence – the big question would be why she didn’t warn anyone about him after she was rescued, more so as her reactions in the trailer show that she definitely knows what Kang is capable of and maybe even what his actual plans are about.

As Janet hasn’t really been a main character in the MCU, this universe hasn’t taken the time to properly explore her story, especially her time in the Quantum Realm, what she did there, who she met, and what she learned there. The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer hints there’s a lot more that Janet has been hiding aside from Kang’s existence and the whole universe that exists in the Quantum Realm, so she could have dangerous information that would actually threaten her family and the Avengers rather than help them against Kang. It’s also possible that Janet could have been on Kang’s side while trapped in the Quantum Realm, and keeping his existence a secret was a way to protect her world. Janet van Dyne looks to be a key player in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and she could also be one of the most important characters in the Multiverse Saga.
