Michael Peña is hopeful that he'll return as Luis in Ant-Man 3, which he believes will begin filming next year. Once Marvel Studios wrapped up Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they didn't waste any time revealing what would come in Phase 4. They've announced movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Black Panther 2 are on the way, in addition to Disney+ shows like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Loki. But, there are also other films in the works that have yet to be officially announced.

It was revealed late last year that Ant-Man 3 is in development at Marvel Studios, but no release date has been set. Peyton Reed is returning to direct the third installment of the franchise after helming both Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. The new film will once again star Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/Wasp, with Michael Douglas also confirming his return as Hank Pym. This has left the appearances of other familiar faces to the Ant-Man world up in the air.

Without any official word on his return, Peña is expressing his interest in appearing in Ant-Man 3. As one of the stars of Blumhouse's Fantasy Island, Peña has been on the press tour and his MCU future has been a topic of conversation. When he was asked if he'll return for Ant-Man 3 during an interview with ComingSoon, he reiterated that he believes production begins in 2021 but isn't yet sure if the fast-talking Luis is part of the story.

For the last one, I didn’t really know what capacity I was going to come back in or if I was going to come back. I think they’re a year away from filming, I think it would be great if I could do a third one. But you never know, especially with all the stuff that happened in Endgame. Right now, Marvel’s in a situation where they can crush some expectations, they’re gonna have to crush some expectations of other characters, not just mine, so hopefully I make the cut.

After appearing in both of the prior Ant-Man films, it would be somewhat surprising if Peña didn't return for Ant-Man 3. Luis is Scott's best friend and coworker thanks to X-Con Security Consultants, so it's hard to imagine him not being reunited with Scott after Avengers: Endgame. He is also a fan-favorite character thanks to his signature wandering storytelling and his absence in Ant-Man 3 would inevitably leave out the chance to get one more. His return could also indicate the return of the full "Antourage" of Kurt (David Dastmalchian) and Dave (Tip 'T.I.' Harris).

As for Ant-Man 3 filming next year, this is something that was previously indicated by Michael Douglas. He said last year that he thinks the film will begin production in January of 2021. Since this production timeline has not yet been confirmed by Marvel, it is unclear if Peña is aware of when Ant-Man 3 will film because of Douglas' previous comments or because Marvel has told him and his team that this is the plan to see if he will be available. Either way, if Ant-Man 3 begins filming sometime in 2021, then it will likely occupy one of the other 2022 MCU release dates - and, hopefully, Peña will be in the film whenever it arrives.
