Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Evangeline Lilly admits that she doesn't watch all Marvel movies and TV shows, and doesn't always know what's going on in the MCU. Lilly broke out in Hollywood with her role as Kate in the JJ Abrams-produced series Lost on ABC before securing the role of Hope Van Dyne in 2015's Ant-Man. From there, Lilly reprised the role in the sequel, Ant-Man and The Wasp, where she took up the role of The Wasp, the super-powered daughter of Hank Pym (the original Ant-Man). She would play the character again in Avengers: Endgame and will once more in 2022's Ant-Man 3.

Lilly also starred as the elf warrior Tauriel in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy, making her mark in The Lord of the Rings universe as well as the MCU. Currently, Lilly is starring in the crime drama South of Heaven with Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis and Luke Cage star Mike Colter. In addition to her film work, Lilly is also an author of a series of children's books called "The Squickerwonkers."

Lilly is now filming Quantumania and told People that she doesn't really keep up with all things Marvel. The third entry in the Ant-Man franchise brings back Lilly in her role as Hope Van Dyne, as well as star Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, and Jonathan Majors as Kang The Conqueror (first introduced in the Loki series). Although Lilly has been in three MCU films already, the actress isn't exactly up to snuff on all things Marvel. Here's what she had to say:

"I don't actually watch all the Marvel stuff and I don't always know what's going on completely in the Marvel universe. Maybe I shouldn't admit that, but I don't."

Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne The Wasp

Director Peyton Reed is once again at the helm for Quantumania, and although Lilly has only seen what they've been filming via the monitors on set, she says that what she's seen so far "looks beautiful and incredible." While Lilly may not be up to date on all things MCU, she has still continued to return to the well, recently voicing The Wasp for an episode of Marvel's What If...? on Disney+, and expressing her love for the Marvel brand in the past. The Ant-Man franchise is taking another step forward with the inclusion of a grown-up Cassie Lang (Scott Lang's daughter), who will be played by actress Kathryn Newton. In the comics, Cassie eventually becomes a superhero herself, taking on two different personas, Stature and Stinger, following in the footsteps of her father, as well as that of The Wasp.

While some may view Lilly's lack of awareness about the MCU as dismissive, the fact remains that she doesn't need to know anything and everything to do with Marvel in order to play the role of Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp. She's proven to be a great addition to the Ant-Man franchise, portraying a classic character that more than holds her own within the MCU, which should give her all the clout she needs to be a part of the franchise. Lilly is sure to continue to add to the universe with her presence in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania whether she's an MCU encyclopedia or not.
